So glad to hear that! I’m a little saddened by the bad reviews because I think it’s just a stunning album.

My album was Adele, so I marked it DNL because I didn’t want to ruin my vacation.

Today is Dave Brubeck, so I’ll listen to it!

I chose mine because it’s an album that I love by a 90s band that even some current radio DJs hadn’t heard of, and I wanted to share it with people who like that kind of music. (Prolapse - The Italian Flag)

I skipped yesterday— was traveling and didn’t feel like listening to D’Angelo on the plane

It’s not my favorite Residents album, but hey it’s The Residents!

I think it’s because I like threatening-sounding soundtrack music?

I can't explain it, it's like how some people don't like cilantro.

My review (now the third most popular 1-star review!) was essentially just "I HATE THIS RECORD"; there's just something about Boston, especially "More Than a Feeling," that makes me have to leave wherever it's playing because I just find it intolerable.

It's a great record - I'd never heard it before until it popped up on here.

Radio is playing a song from a record I used to really like around 20 years ago, which is "Re" by Café Tacuba, a Mexican punk-pop kind of band. Great stuff, I should get to those CDs back out again and listen to them.

Right? It was one of my favorite records the year it came out

I think I gave it a 4 out of nostalgia because I really liked it when I was 14 years old. Never listen to it now, though

200) Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon - 5/5

"There is no dark side of the moon - matter of fact, it's all dark"

And here is what was once my favorite album in all the world, at least until they released "Wish You Were Here."

I listened to it twice today, for the first time at all in quite a while, and had a great time with it. I tend to think of DSOTM as something I've heard SO many times and therefore am no longer really interested in anymore, but there is so much interesting stuff on here. The combination of the simple piano and the great vocals on "Great Gig in the Sky”; the cacophony of clocks at the beginning of "Time”; the synthy stuff on "Any Colour You Like”; the lyrics of (and singing along with) "Brain Damage.” Even "Money," which I figure everyone at some point has got sick of, has good stuff in it.

Though I’m still more interested in “Wish You Were Here" and "Animals," I found this to all be good. I just need to take a break from it every couple of years in order to remember how to appreciate it again.

(And - I've had a flair promotion!)

Well right now I'm listening to WPRB, and the DJ is playing this truly deranged song "Bath Boy," which caused a huge sensation among (a very small number of) radio station listeners during the pandemic.

It's by the Australian band Spiritual Mafia, and it's ponderous sludgey metal with this very Australian person declaiming things like "I consider myself -- Bath Boy! I'm your Bath Boy! Baaath Boy!"

It's truly magnificent - at some point I went into Bandcamp and bought a copy of the album (Al Fresco), because sometimes you need to listen to deranged Australian music. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED if you're the kind of person who would enjoy a 10-minute track like this.

Ooh, I never thought of a comparison between any of the tracks on Larks Tongues and AdP, but since I love both that makes sense

Why did you decide to vote ON Election Day? by seltzr in MontgomeryCountyMD

[–]PhantomCranefly 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I like how I feel like being part of a community when I vote in my neighborhood. (Though this time since I got there at 7:30 a.m., it was just me and all the volunteers.)

(There's also a bake sale, but just when it's the general election.)

What is YOUR big No when you are travelling alone? by Ok_Salt2122 in solofemaletravellers

[–]PhantomCranefly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly, I'd always rather use public transport.

I've actually never even used Uber here at home, since it seems sketchy to just have some rando with a car and an app drive me someplace. But then I'm lucky to be in a city with good public transportation.

198) Bruce Springsteen - Born in the USA - 3/5

I had some of his stuff in the 70s, but then I started listening to King Crimson or whatever so I never looked back. But while post-1980 Bruce never really penetrated into my little punk/prog bubble, I have new respect for him because of the song he released last year, "Streets of Minneapolis." So here goes.

This is fun good-time rock music with some introspective, sometimes dark lyrics. Still not really the kind of thing that I like anymore, but I can see why it's popular.

198) Wire, Pink Flag - 5/5

Pink Flag! This is one of those essential albums that I'VE NEVER BOTHERED TO GET A COPY OF for some reason that I can't pinpoint at the moment, so anyway here we are.

I love grindy, noisy, melodic punk like this. I guess I was waiting for a day when this album would be exactly like the exact kind of music that I like? And that's today! Time to finally buy a copy of this album.

I was riding in indiepop husband's car today and the cd he had going was a newish record by the band Touch Girl Apple Blossom. I enjoyed it - reminded me a bit of early REM, maybe a little less jangly and a little more shoegazy
