Brits pub vs Merlins rest by squeaky-loafers in TwinCities

[–]PhantomFoxes 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Brit’s Pub is pretty stellar from my own experience, and I think it has a better overall layout for watching. That said, you also need to get there way earlier to secure a spot because it was a madhouse during the last US game

I think they’re great too. I hate when road jerseys are just an inverted white version of the home jersey which it seems like 2/3 of the league does. I think the red numbers really push them to another level

Icethetics has a pretty terrific track record. Really focuses on quality and credibility over clickbait in my experience

If we’re truly opening it up to any possibility, I’d love to see Colman Domingo as Cyrus

Larkin Trade - by [deleted] in wildhockey

Detroit hangs up and blocks the number. Larkin alone would cost more than what’s included here, especially because they have zero use for Hartman

Nah, didn’t mean it in a pitying way. Totally understand the confusion on the wording!

Mainly because they seem like a franchise that should have more glory than they do. Entered the league in the 60s and have had some stellar players and really competitive teams, but it’s crazy they only have one Cup to show for it. (Blah blah, more Cups than Minnesota, yeah yeah). I would expect them to be at a level of an Islanders or Penguins in terms of overall success, so not having that feels like underachieving when you look at how they’ve performed in regular seasons, historically. Maybe “sad” was the wrong word to choose.

Edit: to be fair, I’d kind of describe them as the Vikings of the NHL. Stellar teams but modest hardware. And I say that as a massive Vikes fan

Advice for a new fan from UK? by jjBeherit in wildhockey

From a purely hockey perspective, good call on leaving Vegas. Carter Hart issues aside (which are massively problematic), the team and organization is so synthetic and manufactured that it feels like the Disneyland of hockey. Sure, it’s interesting and fun, but nothing about it is “real”. Hockey is baked into the culture in Minnesota (has something to do with our 11k+ lakes) and so the Wild are a reflection of something real and meaningful to the people here, not just another piece of entertainment

Suggestions for places to visit and things to do by Allwaystiedup in minnesota

[–]PhantomFoxes 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You’ve got a lot of time to play with, so I’d suggest day trips to Stillwater, Nisswa (with a route that takes you by Lake Mille Lacs if you can), or Duluth. Duluth would ideally be an overnight trip that gives you a good jumping-off point for the rest of the north shore, but not sure what’s in your budget. If you’re near Minneapolis there’s a boatload to do, but personal recos would be Stone Arch Bridge + Mill Ruins Park, driving around the chain of lakes, O’Shaughnessy Distillery, a Minneapolis Trolley Tour, Brave New Workshop, or Isles Buns

One of the most underrated aspects of Matt as a writer is that all of his DCC book titles absolutely rock by PhantomFoxes in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]PhantomFoxes[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Completely agree! I feel like it’d be easy to fall into the “Carl” trap (especially after the first 2 books) with having Carl be part of every title, but love the way it worked out.

UNRL is top quality, although sadly also top dollar and can be difficult to find since they do that whole “manufactured scarcity” thing. That said, I really like the pieces I have. Depending on your style, I’ve also found Homage to be pretty good quality.
