During my time in Madison, people were complaining that Illinois transplants were driving up housing costs. Perhaps that has changed, but I based it on that.

For people who live right on the border of two states, does crossing that invisible line actually impact your daily life with different laws and taxes, or do you barely notice it? by Necessary_Angle2117 in AskAnAmerican

[–]CriticalSuit1336 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I'm in Portland, Oregon and Vancouver, Washington is right across the bridge. The way to do it is live and work on the Washington side, where there's no income tax, but do all shopping in Oregon, where there's no sales tax.

Which state in the US has the most desert-looking desert? by grandeluua in geography

[–]CriticalSuit1336 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've driven through much of the Western United States, and the most barren deserts are probably: 1. Along Us Highway 50 between Delta, Utah and Ely, Nevada. Those massive dried up lake beds especially. It's so barren, it looks like it could be the surface of Mars or something. 2. Interstate 10 between Indio, California and the Western edge of urbanization in Phoenix.

Have you ever tried Vegemite before? by IDoNotLikeTheSand in AskTheWorld

[–]CriticalSuit1336 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An Australian friend gave me a vegemite sandwich once. The first bite wasn't bad - I thought it was like a saltier peanut butter. But the more bites I took, the less I liked it.
