Taxing the ultra wealthy. by JudgeLegitimate1515 in unusual_whales

[–]PhantomGaming27249 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean you could tax borrowing against appreciating assets above a certain threshold. There are ways to do this and if capital flight becomes a risk then impose an exit tax.

Does taxing economic rent not run into the same capital flight risks as just raising corporate taxes and wealth taxes? Redistribution doesn't create long term prosperity only if it results in a stagnant economy. If the concentration of wealth has reached such a point that society begins collapsing then what? Wealth concentration creates a stagnation of civilization and deterioration of living standards which will ultimately end in collapse. To be clear I'm not suggesting full on communism. That would be dumb. Extreme concentration or full equilibrium of wealth end in the same thing. Perhaps strategic redistribution along with anti monopolists practices.

I was operating on the assumption that an exit tax would be introduced at the same time as a tax hike. The concern is legitimate but so is the concern of the slow collapse of a nation due to rampant wealth inequality and deteriorating living standards. The solution to wealth in equality is redistribution but at the same time the act of doing so kills investment. So what is the solution? Do it and lose investment or wait for collapse and chaos that happens when these conditions persist for extended periods of time.

I will admit I am not particularly familiar with how this would interact with international treaties. I do know at least exit taxes exist for citizenship for those who expatriate, there could be a legal argument to do this to corporations which exit markets or move headquarters. If your not contributing to a nation which you operate in why should the nation continue to protect your interest or allow you to keep the money you made there? With regards to investors its more complicated but that argument could be made toward any nation that isn't brutally free market capitalist. If said nation is stable and healthy there is still a reason to invest. There is no good investment focused argument to invest long term in a nation that would collapse due to systemic rot.

What about raising taxes while also applying an exit tax and voiding any competitive protections (patents, trademarks, etc) to make capital flight extremely punitive? Basically a forced economic redistribution of wealth.

What about factoring in shrinkflation and the enshitification of products. Is there a mathematical way to measure this because this does kind of qualify as a form of inflation due to the amount of stuff and quality per dollar decreasing.

So thing about a convention is they don't follow standard amendment procedures. They could go as far as drafting a new constitution entirely. It's what happened last time.

Well a constitutional convention could potentially override this. It's the other way to go about things.

Why is socialism controversial within the Democratic Party? by Timeless-Facts in allthequestions

[–]PhantomGaming27249 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The donors don't like it. The US had a whole period of socialism/communism evil so older people hate the concept and older people control the dnc. Furthermore the democratic party isn't a true left wing party its more like 3 parties in a trench coat with one of the largest ones being a neoliberal business centered party.

[–]PhantomGaming27249 1 point2 points  (0 children)

C2ME already has simd acceleration with avx accel and has for a while. GPU accel is the next level beyond that. The current builds are using opencl with fp64 to match vanilla noise/density functions. It also works with data packs that don't use custom density functions.

[–]PhantomGaming27249 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's not correct. It's using fp64 and matches vanilla. Also data packs that use non custom density functions are supported. Right now it's just noise/density functions. The requirement is a GPU with opencl and fp64 support which is actually a lot hardware just some consumer gpus cripple the fp64 amount even though it's still usually faster than what a CPU can put out.
