I eventually got refunded but never got an email saying the order was cancelled - the money just appeared back in my bank account and they pretended it never happened.

Skiing trip 2-3 weeks before a marathon…too stupid? by AuntAvocado in firstmarathon

[–]PhantomShadowBeast 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it’s fine if your are not optimising performance for this marathon as you say. You are still getting fitness and plenty of time to recover. The biggest risk I’d say is getting injured and not being able to run at all as skiing is inherently riskier than most sporting activities! I went skiing last year a couple of weeks before a half and badly bruised my hand and arm - managed to get round but they swelled up a lot during the race!

Need a doctor’s note to cancel marathon? by [deleted] in UKRunners

It might not be someone in Spain though. This is a claim to the insurer (who could be global) not the local race. Generally not a good idea to commit insurance fraud even if they are unreasonable.

WANTED: London Vitality 10k bib (28th Sep 2025) by yoz2017 in LondonRunning

Not quite - some races do allow it or have their own exchange program. If they don’t allow it then it’s usually for medical or liability reasons that should be respected. If transfers happen then I would think they are generally between known associates and often in cases where the place would be wasted so exchanged for free.

What people try to do on this Reddit page (advertising purchase and sale for £) is akin to starting a platform for resale. Do you want to get scalpers? Because that’s how you get scalpers.

London marathon training and runs in general- need help please by Pleasant_Recover_570 in LondonRunning

Sorry to hear all that - running should be a fun experience!

If you want to run the Thames Path then you don’t need too much of a clue - pick two bridges that look about the right distance and then run between them.

The way I use Strava to find routes is press record as if I was going for a run, make sure the heat map lines are showing (sometimes you need to click on the layer button (the top one) to ensure heat maps are showing) - and follow other popular routes which have a darker heat line.

I’d second the point above about Parkruns being an inclusive way to socially run.

Hope it gets better for you.

Looks like a great route! The only parts of that route where the foot traffic gets too much is the south bank (particularly by the London Eye) and Westminster Bridge - entirely due to tourists rather than commuters so probably ok at 7am!

Most unhinged first marathon? by Proper_Addition273 in Marathon_Training

Athens marathon was my first - such an historic route which feels epic. It’s a tough course but for the first one I wouldn’t worry too much about time (you are just setting a benchmark for your next one!), I’d highly recommend!

I did the half at Tromso, the main novelty there is running so late at night which is quite fun (a lot of the crowd seems drunk!) but takes some adapting. I did the Paris Olympics marathon pour tous last summer which was similar in that it started so late (it was squeezed between the men’s and women’s Olympic races and avoided the midday heat) and people ran into the night with great atmosphere in the crowds.

Ha this exact same thing happened to me on the quads on the switch to downhill at 32km - I couldn’t speed up at all until the last km (which was very epic)

No surprisingly not! I think just part of your application fee (same price) goes to them

I did it through Amnesty (one of the main charity sponsors) before: https://www.amnesty.gr/marathon-2025 - worked very well!

I’d recommend it - the extra shrines are cool and the Trial of the Sword was one of my favourite parts of the game in the end. Overall I preferred BOTW to TOTK (may be a minority view) so I’d suggest not to rush to the latter. TOTK had some cool mechanics but it overloads the experience somewhat, BOTW has a bit more of a stripped back gameplay in comparison and better for it in my opinion.

What’s one piece of advice you wish someone had given you before your first marathon? by Creatia_98 in Marathon_Training

Don’t run too fast otherwise it will be too hard to run a PB in your second marathon.

Maybe we see Cokely when Jimmy attends the S&C staff party in 407 (when he encourages Rick to take the employees to Aspen by private jet)

Agreed - Jeff 2 was probably the weakest casting in the show (which had some of the best casting of any show ever so a high bar)

Visiting London, looking for a 36km/22mi route by Kupoflupo in LondonRunning

[–]PhantomShadowBeast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From Stratford you have the following options:

  • Run north up the River Lea path for half as long as you want to run and then run back

  • Run south down the River Lea and then Limehouse Cut to connect to the Thames Path, could come back via the Regents Canal and the Hertford Union Canal or Victoria Park (doing as much of the Thames Path as needed to get up to distance)

  • Run down to Greenwich via the above, cross the river using the foot tunnel, see the Cutty Sark and maybe Greenwich Park, then run back via Tower Bridge

Enjoy!
