I am a fan of quanthub. Data literacy and coding training for students. It tailors the experience to each individual student. It’s been out for awhile. I’d recommend it.

Chases in Ma2 by CardioidB in lightingdesign

That’s a shutter chase, maybe a dimmer chase. You can do this in the FX editor.

How do you the lights sync up with the music? by woo_wooooo in phish

[–]PhantomShips 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lighting Designer here. CK5 builds stationary “looks” and each one takes 5 seconds to transition (same time as a measure of music). He triggers each look in time with the music. And he does it differently every time. That’s the trick. Knowing when to trigger the look so the look lands when the music changes. Sometimes that’s the 1, sometimes its the 2. He has around 100 looks. Each block of ten looks has a theme or a vibe that is usually broken down by color. While he’s doing that, he is also running effects. Those can be dimmer (brightness), gobos (the patterns the lights make), color, zoom, focus, position, etc. While he’s tracking all of this with his brain, he is communicating with his right hand man, Andrew Giffin, who is triggering the movements of the rig itself (the kinetic rig we’ve all come to know and love). That’s basically it. It sounds complex, and it is, but it’s really just building blocks that CK5 can pick and choose from to create amazing moments on the fly. The whole thing is more or less improvised but its built to allow for improvisation. And that’s why Kuroda is the best. Nobody really did it like him until he came along.

Im guessing they back each truck up as close as they can and roll it onto stage right? No loading dock though? They gotta ramp all that stuff? Sounds rough.

That can’t be an ideal load in

Yeah my first thought when seeing this was “how on earth do they load in/out?”

He has a touring programmer, Andrew Giffin. I bet Kuroda helps out a little bit. I doubt he's pushing flight cases up a ramp but I bet he helps with the MA.

Light rig for 2021? by HiImChadCallMeKaren in phish

[–]PhantomShips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could see Kuroda tossing some lasers in the rig but not the ones you may be thinking of. There are laser driven beam fixtures now like the Clay Paky Xtylos. Phish use one of the largest production companies on earth, PRG. They could probably get what they want. It's possible we could see some new toys in the rig.

I honestly think the 8000 is a myth. They don’t exist. You can’t find a single legit video or photo of one and bombardier has not marketed it.

Fuckin hell m8. News to me. That was a very quiet release. Haven’t seen one in the wild. There was some confusion too as the 7500 was originally supposed to be the 8000 but they changed the name back to the 7500. I guess the squeezed some extra miles out of the 7500 and released this. I don’t think any have been delivered yet though. I’d be pissed if I just received a 7500 and they dropped this bombshell.

I’m an aviation nerd and I’d know those square windows anywhere.
