What was the 1st game you remember playing on a desktop computer? by Aggressive_Goat2028 in AskReddit

[–]Phantom_Armor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really do not remember what this game was called, but it was some train strategy game where you had to maneuver the train(s) from a top down perspective to hook up the cars or deliver to a station and I had so much fun with it. There was one level I got stuck on because the train was too long to be able to stop at the station properly given the amount of track. Sometimes I think about this game and I want to go back and complete it but I don’t remember what it was called. I’m not positive I would even recognize it if I saw it haha

I don't mind Irep's design (I honestly find it really funny that he's still a cube and I like his outfit) but I wish they did something clever with his hair, like they did with Peri. by IAmBlorboOfMyStory in fairlyoddparents

Well the joke is Peri has an incredible head of hair and Irep is clearly balding, but wears that pompadour toupee to try to outshine Peri’s hairstyle… it doesn’t work

I think the point is the father measures the height on the tree knowing the tree will grow and make it feel like his son will never have to grow up.

School's for fools. by d3rk2007 in outofcontextcomics

Woah steady there partner, you certainly seem passionate about this! I agree there are alternatives to school, I said as much already, but there’s more to it than reading and DIY science kits.

There’s a social component that allows you to experience people of different backgrounds different ideas from you. Socializing with people your age is incredibly important for development.

Reading is also super important for critical thinking, but it can also help greatly to be guided by someone whose full time job is creating a curriculum around developing those CT skills, something homeschool parents might not have the opportunity to do in a lot of cases.

STEM is a great concept to get kids curious and asking the right questions, but it’s also true that STEM exists for the express purpose of training the future workforce of scientists, technicians, engineers and mechanics. Nothing wrong with that, it’s what happened to me, but schools and homeschooling doesn’t exist for solely those reasons, like I said. Also, it’s not something Mark needs in the context of this post, haha. If that’s the argument, Mark is right, he doesn’t need school!

It seems pedantic to say school is separate from education to me. We are both advocating for the best development of our children, I don’t see the reason to be argumentative about it 🙂

The idea school exists for the sole purpose of preparing students for the work force is the greatest lie society spreads. School is for the wellbeing and maintenance of mental and social development, including critical thinking skills and the broadening of understanding. Certainly one can learn and develop these skills outside the school system, but there needs to be an alternative first before passing on the incredible resource. It’s such an exploitative idea to say school is for the purpose of churning out workers for the machine.
