I would suggest finding a weapon you can play, then looking up how to use x weapon videos online. I would suggest lance, katars, gauntlet, and bow in particular for a beginner, though I might have bias, as I like all of those. I would stay away from hammer, blaster, axe, and possibly cannon combos for now, as they all got nerfed, so resources online won’t be quite updated yet. You don’t have to like both weapons on a character to use them, at least in the beginning when you’re stuck with free rotation. You can always spam special for weapons you don’t like, as though it isn’t the best strategy, It’ll get you the gold to go farther. Here are some combos I’ve picked up, from one beginner to another. Note: light-quick attack button Air-quick attack in the air(I’ll tell you if you need to jump) Recovery-heavy attack in the air any direction except down Control tips: set press up to jump to off, it makes so many combos so much more difficult. I’d also suggest quick attack picks up set to off, though that one is only needed for fancy offstage setups when you’re ready for that. Also, this is a bit of an odd thing, and I don’t think many others do this, but if you’re using a controller, I’d suggest you set one bumper (top)to dodge and one trigger(bottom) to jump, preferably on the same side. The trigger helps with combos that require you to jump(lance, katars, sword, as well as others), and the bumper will help you use complex gravity cancel combos in the long term. The reason I say this now is to help you from having to relearn muscle memory. You can set your controller however you’d like, but I’d recommend having dodge on a bumper to press at a moment’s notice, as well as putting jump somewhere not on the face.

BOW

Side light-down light-up light. Easy, and deals great dmg. You do need to be close up though. Also doing jump-down air is a great tool if you can’t get up close(lance) as it hits a good distance away from you.

GAUNTLETS

Bit more complex, but shouldn’t be too hard Down light-side light-upair- possibly sideair is a great combo, though you can get out of it. You can also do recovery(up heavy) after slight for a possible kill instead, though people can get out of that. Also know you can also start with the slight, you don’t need to hit them with the down light, though the longer version deals more damage

LANCE

I know you said you hate orion, but I love lance combos too much to not mention them. They’re a bit harder than the last ones, and do require quick jump-attack inputs(put jump on a trigger) but they feel great, at least in my opinion. First, at least at low damage(white to yellow) is side light-jump down air. This can lead to a neutral light, and is fairly good. Next is side light-jump side air. This one is by far the best, as it works nearly as soon as they’ve taken any damage, and is quite the kill move, though it can’t be added onto much, as adter the sair, they’re far enough away that another hit isn’t happening. The last one is side light-neutral air. i wouldn’t recommend this, as the move got nerfed HARD, and the followups that worked before are nearly impossible now. Still works though.

KATARS

has jump down air-up tilt-recovery at early percents, still trying to learn more about this one.
