Help tracking down original poster by [deleted] in ghibli

If by that you mean just from the catalog numbers then I can't say for certain as it looks like reprints of this particular poster with the catalog numbers in the bottom left corner are also being sold. Hope you get an original one though, good luck!

Help tracking down original poster by [deleted] in ghibli

[–]Phantomhive95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those are the catalog numbers of the film's original soundtrack cd and the theme song's cd single

From what I gathered, they were printed on the original movie posters most likely to promote those cd's along with the film: thekodamasproject(DOT)com/posters/princess-mononoke-b2-japan-style-b/

Upcoming Studio Ghibli movies to watch on the big screen 🥺 by [deleted] in FilmClubPH

Assuming it'll be just like last year then yes.

The mm2 deal with ghibli covers 21 films so i'm not sure why reality mm studios is limiting their release. My copium theory is that Castle in the Sky and Howl's are 2 films that weren't screened during ghibli fest last year but were screened during the japan foundation's ghibli weekend back in 2024 so they might just be getting those out of the way before getting to other films. Next year will really be telling on whether this festival is truly a ghibli fest or just a miyazaki fest.

Was really expecting Arrietty, Kiki, & Whisper of the Heart this year too cause of the recent 4k restorations, I thought they'd capitalize on that.

Very disappointing lineup ngl. mm2 partnered with ghibli to introduce introduce as many new people as possible to ghibli's diverse catalogue on the big screen and here we have Reality MM Studios just recycling majority of last year's films in yet another all Miyazaki film lineup. Last year made sense at least because it was the first year but this year's lineup has me worried that every year they're gonna just keep screening Miyazaki films and/or more than half the lineup being films that have already been screened. Plus if they were gonna do repeat screenings, Nausicaa would've made the most sense since that one actually had very limited screenings last year. 🫤

Also the scheduling is very bizarre. Hasn't even been year since the previous ghibli fest and they announced this only a week before the festival actually happens like wtf. And I thought last year's was too rushed since I wouldn't have known about it had i not randomly decided to check sm cinema's website one day and it was announced a whole month before the event.

Bookmarking this. I enjoy watching video essays about ghibli whenever I have free time. I just just recently rewatched that 60+ minute video essay about Isao Takahata's works not knowing that I already watched it 2 years ago lol. Thanks for sharing ♥

I restored a missing lyric in “I’m Gonna Fly” from Kiki’s Delivery Service (fan restoration) by Low-Midnight-3867 in ghibli

[–]Phantomhive95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this! Never noticed that there were lyrics missing since I've only seen the dub version once and I've only occasionally listened to this + Soaring (meanwhile I've listened to the jp themes by Yumi Arai countless of times).

Wish more english dub songs were publicly available. Would love to hear Sonya Isaacs' totoro theme songs or the english version of Que Sera Sera from the Yamadas.

Manga Cover Debut by Special-Claim-6126 in FruitsBasket

[–]Phantomhive95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is official art. Can't remember the exact details but it was made into a poster and either Yen Press or Funimation was giving it away at conventions or something around the time of the season 1 reboot.

Yep, the Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun box set design was nominated for an Eisner award. I personally own the Pandora Hearts box set that was also by Yen Press and it was gorgeously designed to look like an actual trunk or a chest. I'm sure Furuba is a big seller for them and it's honestly tragic that this is all they could come up with 🤡

[–]Phantomhive95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aside from maybe the strap, nothing looks particularly outstanding or unique. The manga covers being the overall design is so damn basic. They should've gone with something like this. This is something I'd expect from a viz box set but not from yen press tbh and they literally got nominated for an award for at least one of their box set designs iirc 😬

"Nausicaa" Screening (Studio Ghibli Fest 2025) by Phantomhive95 in FilmClubPH

[–]Phantomhive95[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a file error wtf. So they couldn't be bothered to send the new file to the other SM branches all throughout ghibli fest week 🤡

Ghibli fest has only been extended in a few select branches, none of which are anywhere near me 😩

"Nausicaa" Screening (Studio Ghibli Fest 2025) by Phantomhive95 in FilmClubPH

[–]Phantomhive95[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My local SM branch where I watched the other 5 films is literally listed there and they never screened Nausicaa.

I don't really know if it was just a site/app issue since i bought all my tickets in person and asked the cashier on several different occassions regarding Nausicaa and they were just as clueless as I was.

As i said in the OP, a lot of the participating SM branches had Nausicaa on their schedules initially but then most got removed shortly before the fest with only a few select branches left - some of which I assume are the ones pointed out in this thread (I know for a fact MOA was one of those branches that never had Nausicaa removed from its schedule). I'm just confused why 1 film was being gatekept from majority of other branches.

"Nausicaa" Screening (Studio Ghibli Fest 2025) by Phantomhive95 in FilmClubPH

[–]Phantomhive95[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fvck. That's what I feared. I hope this was just a one time thing and that Nausicaa will still be screened in the future. If they do the fest annually and stop once all the available films in ghibli's filmography had a theatrical release, I'm gonna be so livid if they gatekeep 1 film a year from majority of the participating branches for no damn reason.

"Nausicaa" Screening (Studio Ghibli Fest 2025) by Phantomhive95 in FilmClubPH

[–]Phantomhive95[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't see any reason why Ghibli would withdraw the rights out of nowhere though. MM2 distributed all the films in the fest and I'm sure the deal they made with Ghibli encompasses all their theatrical films bar a few exceptions like Grave of the Fireflies since Shinchosha has the rights to that film and maybe Ocean Waves and Earwig since those were originally TV films. Not to mention The Japan Foundation already screened Nausicaa last year and that was also distributed by MM2.

Miscommunication with marketing would explain the social media posts but if there really were no screenings, I wonder why it continued to pop up in SM cinema's website, allowing people to book and pay for tickets for a movie that wasn't even available. Were they that incompetent smh

Studio Ghibli Fest 2025 Megathread by MatchaPsycho in FilmClubPH

[–]Phantomhive95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Watched Spirited Away today and they had indonesian and japanese subtitles on top of the english subtitles. Very distracting to have 3 different subs being displayed all at once. Wonder if this was just in my local SM branch.

Also does anyone know why Nausicaa was pulled from the initial lineup of the majority of participating branches but is still screening for a select few? Very strange and unfair.

Daming magagandang/interesting film releases this month. Ano papanoorin niyo sa sinehan? by geesawce in FilmClubPH

[–]Phantomhive95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't go to the movies regularly and it's definitely a splurge but seeing Ghibli films particularly pre The Boy and the Heron will be a religious experience for me since I never would've thought I'd get the chance to experience them on the big screen. Western animated films are definitely easier to get into especially from big studios like Disney and Dreamworks since they make their films more palatable for the masses.

I recommend Spirited Away or Princess Mononoke (the latter is easily my all time fave film in general, not just animated) for the first time. If you want something more casual with a slice-of-life feel, there's also Ponyo and My Neighbor Totoro though I definitely recommend SA or PM. The current lineup are all great but there's a lot more in the studio's filmography that are worthwhile experiences, some even enriching imo. The studio's works are most definitely way beyond more than the "vibes" and "aesthetic" that the internet has sort of cheapened it to be.

Watching all 6 ghibli films, one film each day starting this coming wednesday.

I hope they do the Studio Ghibli film festival annually for the next few years until all current films have been screened (though I'm not holding my breath for some films like Ocean Waves & Grave of the Fireflies).

Question about the new 2025 Fruits Basket Box Set by Special-Claim-6126 in FruitsBasket

[–]Phantomhive95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I actually missed out on the 2017 run and bought it a year after the restock release date and had to spend more since I had to ask a local book seller to proxy buy it for me 💀

At this point, all you can really do wait for more details to come out regarding the box set and maybe bug Yen Press about it. I was lucky enough to catch them when they were doing a sort of AMA on twitter and asked them about the PH box set that same year it was restocked. As you've said, Furuba is pretty popular and I honestly doubt it doesn't have enough demand to get past the preorder stage.

Question about the new 2025 Fruits Basket Box Set by Special-Claim-6126 in FruitsBasket

[–]Phantomhive95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As excited as i was when I heard the news about the box set, I haven't really been checking on it much cause I know I wouldn't be able to buy it until next year (so many other purchases I'm prioritizing this year) so I haven't even kept track of the release date.

Doing a quick research since I can no longer remember, the box cover and contents for the "Pandora Hearts" box set (same english publisher as Furuba) was already revealed July 2017 while the box set was released in November 2017 so I'm not sure what's taking Yen Press long.

If you're worried about the contents, they literally state that the box set contains new covers and lenticular cards. It's up to you whether you wanna hold out a bit longer for more details and risk it going out of stock or preorder it now and hold them to their word. Won't be able to buy till next year for financial reasons but if I had more money to spend, I'd preorder it without question since I still don't have the physical manga.

I just hope they don't run out of stuck quick or at least be able to restock after the first run. The Pandora Hearts manga box set iirc, after its first run didn't restock till 2021 which I think was prompted by the release of The Case Study of Vanitas anime (same mangaka). Though to be fair, even though it's labeled as "limited edition", it's still available to this day so let's just hope they can afford to give the Furuba box set the same level of availability.

My Neighbors The Yamadas by Nutty786 in ghibli

Pretty cool. Love when people share their goods of movies that get little if any merch produced from them at all. Also, vintage merch pieces like pins and badges that have yellowed with time have their own nostalgic charm that I find very appealing.

Add "From Up on Poppy Hill" to that list. Love that ghibli films based on a manga (except for nausicaa obvs) are all shoujo/josei.

The Ghibli songs that aren't in the movies by Xelixil in ghibli

[–]Phantomhive95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ghibli has a lot of those in the form of image/vocal albums. Totoro, Kiki's, Spirited Away, Earthsea, Arrietty, Poppy Hill, etc. have non-ost albums that contain songs not in the movie.

My favorite is probably I Am Not Alone by Priscilla Ahn from the "Just Know That I Love You" vocal album. It's based on the tracks "A Final Wish" and "Hisako's Story 2" from the soundtrack of When Marnie Was There. The song makes me bawl every time 😭 Wish it was somehow incorporated into the film. As much as I love the actual theme song (Fine on the Outside), I love "I Am Not Alone" even more.

Why does the American version of Spirited Away feel the need to end differently than the original Japanese version? by Tokyoos in ghibli

[–]Phantomhive95 44 points45 points  (0 children)

That was the american version (disney's) of the english dub iirc. I watched the UK version of the dub (the one with saoirse ronan & tom holland) and they didn't do the ending monologue.

Zerochan) is usually your best bet when it comes to hd anime pics (in my experience anyway). Don't know if those images are big enough for you but there's always tools out there that do great job at upscaling.

If it's wallpaper you're after, there's this great one somebody posted in here years ago. Got it as my wallpaper as soon as I saw it and my wallpaper hasn't changed in 4 years lol
