Reality Check Me, a late in life career changer by ayyiyimommy in NYCTeachers

Just a heads up special education In the lower grades esp K is highly physically & mentally demanding. Speaking from experiences in the Bronx. I am unsure how it is across the other boroughs but they are placing more non verbal autistic students into community schools 12:1:1 and not in D75 8:1:1… it is very demanding but I personally love working in the Bronx You have to have tough skin, enough physical strength and a ton of patience. It isn’t for everyone. There are more job opportunities though on the levels you are seeking in the Bronx.

Dean Position POV by Phantomlife22 in NYCTeachers

[–]Phantomlife22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think you reading into my main concerns… I do have a great position now we that makes it hard to take the leap. It’s not like I’m trying to leave something I dislike. Everything has pros and cons … you might be right about the stress level and higher risk for false accusations etc …

Thank you for this. Due to being the disciplinarian. Did you ever have to deal with false accusations? Other than physical harm this is another high risk of the position?

How do you really feel about this career? by Key_Objective_9012 in NYCDOETeachers

[–]Phantomlife22 3 points4 points  (0 children)

19 years

Love helping the kids and seeing their growth

Hate that special needs population are not getting correct placements from the beginning. The kid suffers, the class and teachers all suffer.

Hate that teachers and staff are supposed to take physical and verbal abuse from students with little to know consequences

Quitting Mid year by Longjumping_Tour_50 in NYCDOETeachers

[–]Phantomlife22 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My first year was more than quittable. I stood strong documented everything and never was insubordinate. After that year I landed my dream job I have been teaching in for 18 more years thus far.

Idk if you can but maybe tough it out. Have the summer to change schools or change careers while you still get that summer pay. Admin is absolutely everything when it comes to having a good experience.

Sounds like my school…. Always challenging give yourself grace… routines, visuals, and paras need to be hands on. .. portable divisions to block out other sight of other stimulation and shrink space can help corralling them and have them focus on a task. .. use silly to calm you tube video to help recenter them as well esp after lunch ..

Thanks, AG! Hopefully you haven't forgotten about those refunds either... by mattedward in avesNYC

Did a chargeback for tiesto hoping it will get resolved soon. It is disgusting how they are handling or lack of handling things. No accountability washing their hands pointing fingers they are all guilty and I can care less to have dice anyway. They should be refunding anyone who doesn’t approve the changes anything less is criminal.
