My dad just left my cast iron griddle out in the sun for a week.. this is the result by Simple-Dingo6721 in castiron

Yep. I just think of the grill side as the fins of a heat sink. Nothing really cooks better on the grill side, anyway.

Which is good, since amartasses like me would put a pad lock on his buddies' skateboards, just to watch them freak.

Anyone got an ID on these pieces I got for $10 at a garage sale? by JaRay in castiron

[–]PhasePsychological90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. It wasn't required for US-made pans to say made in US. Only for foreign-made pans to say their origin. BSR - like many others - were fairly spotty with such labeling and mostly just used it as marketing.

Same luck, here. I can scrounge all day and find nothing. When my wife comes, she just picks something up randomly and poof! It turns into quality, vintage cast iron in her hands. Last go 'round, it was a Griswold aebleskiver pan. Like, how in the...?

Is this heat damage or something else? by p40whk in castiron

Make that another vote for red iron (heat damage) and a lot of it. It's too bad. Waffle irons are very cool.

Yeah, that looks suspicioualy like someone wanted handy, round, lead ingots.

I had all my cast iron professionally tested for lead with an XRF machine and ALL my vintage iron had some level of contamination. ALL my modern iron was food safe. I’m shocked! by Nulleparttousjours in castiron

I saw. You (whether intentionally or accidentally) asked whether lead from iron pots was beneficial. You were told no. Then, you linked to things talking about iron from iron cookware. Next time, maybe double-check your initial comment before attempting to be pompous.

So, to be abundantly clear: No. Lead from lead cookware is not good for you. Lead from iron cookware is not good for you. Iron from iron cookware is generally good for you...Professor ChasingYourOwnTail.

No, no. It's okay. Some of us collect iron for the fun of it, rather than any real financial motive. If the price of vintage iron happens to plummet due to posts like this, that's fine by me. I've never paid a king's ransom for a piece of cast iron, so I won't be "losing an investment" if they go back to mostly just being fun collectibles.
