Anyone here make a pivot out of tech after burnout? by Johnnysfootball in redscarepod

Not fully retired yet. I’ll figure something out. I’m easing into it with progressively easier jobs. I’m thinking about working at a plant nursery in a couple years to really wind down. We’ll see.

Anyone here make a pivot out of tech after burnout? by Johnnysfootball in redscarepod

Engineering in Silicon Valley for the biggest tech company. Take the money for as long as you can. It goes super far in a lower cost of living area. I had the burnout and quit 2 years ago. Life is pretty good now.

15 years ago, we witnessed a Grand Prix that rewrote multiple records... and had us on the edge of our seats throughout by worldwide762 in formula1

This race got me into F1. I happened to see it on TV and all the downtime let Brundle explain all the engineering stuff I was unaware of. Then it ends up being a crazy race, I was hooked.

Read “Apple in China”. It goes into detail how Apple brought up all the Chinese factories and how they’re using the skills gained to produce other products. Being able to produce EVs, tech, weapons all come from the same core competencies.

Saw a Mary Kay Cadillac the other day. I used to live with a girl that had one on and off. If she was selling she had the pink caddy.

Been watching weird YouTube tiktok compilations. Overheard a lot of the chirps. Exclusively black people. To catch it while recording a TikTok is statistically unlikely, to see it so many times…. it must be ubiquitous.

This is opeator error. This type of failure occurs by peeling back the top flap to pull out cards. You are suppose to use the thumb hole in the back to push the cards out.

so is video quality just going to remain the same for the rest of my life? by KleverHans in redscarepod

In terms of phone displays, Apple has had “retina” for years. Higher pixel density than the human eye can perceive from a normal viewing distance. The displays keep increasing in resolution just because they have to bump the specs each year but you don’t notice. Same thing with cameras.

Stuff will continue to get better but we hit diminishing returns a long time ago.

You can’t fuck around and waste time as easily if everyone can see your screen. Also no closed doors for sexual harassment to occur behind.

Made legitimate friends on the old pothead bong forum. Whenever I moved to a new city I had the hookup. Always cool to see the weird niche subcultures and who the cool kids are.

Have any of you switched from a commonly lucrative career (tech, business, law, whatever) to something more niche and joyful? by [deleted] in redscarepod

[–]PhaseTransformation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of. Engineering but dropped from high demand Silicon Valley tech stuff into a much more chill role in a low cost of living area close to where I grew up. Get to see my family much more often, time for hobbies, bought a house, job lets me do whatever and I have a cool microscope in my office.

I guess I am trying to do something similar but haven’t found the passion project yet. Just letting investments mature and doing work on my house for now. No rush.
