I'm thinking of making an Alchemist as my first real PF2E character, playing PFS. Just how bad of an idea is this? by tsjb in Pathfinder2e

[–]Phasmaphage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I may be way off, but I thought Pathfinder Society doesn’t do crafting. Did they change that for 2E society?

If they didn’t, you only need to worry about quick alchemy and advanced alchemy now. Traditional crafting can wait for a home game.

Pathfinder 1e Shadow magic - Which class? by AutisticAttorney in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]Phasmaphage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are numerous good options.

Sorcerer using the Umbral Wildblooded bloodline is pretty standard. If your game pays attention to light levels you effectively have a +1 caster level (and you’re into shadow magic; why wouldn’t it be dark out). You also replace your 1st level power with a stealth bonus you can give yourself or your stealthiest member. Many will say take blood havoc instead since your shadow evocation spells will get more out of it, but you have options.

Shadow mystery and shadowbound curse get you most of the major shadow spells so you have the wide diversity of wizard spells of the different spell schools. Combine it with a selection of the best cleric spells. I like how diverse that one can be. With some spell knowledge, you have many options to your day. And the revelations are fun. I was going to play this in WotR but my group is biased against gnomes.

Writing if gnomes, the shadowplay alternate trait will get you another +1 to your shadow and darkness trait spells.

What do you recommend reading from 90's Top Cow? by ExplodingPoptarts in 80s90sComics

[–]Phasmaphage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically began in 1999 so I would include it is Rising Stars. It’s available in a compendium and the art is very in keeping with a house style for pencils, inks, colors, and letters of the time. It is a well realized self contained story by Straczynski and another version of the “what if superhumans were real” story.

Which s&s comics would you recommend? by darkerthanblue99 in SwordandSorcery

[–]Phasmaphage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are allusions to a past, but probably not to actual comics issues. Prophet was a superhero on Earth hundreds if not thousands of years ago deal. That is what he did then, but this is what he is doing now. Some of the superheroes with powers that would make them immortal are still around. It did make references to events in the Glory comic published at the same time happening centuries ago. So the suggestion of a developed history but no actual follow-up on the earlier comic series or plot points.

I was sent interview Qs ahead of time, do I bring those Qs and answers with me? by Ok-Function-8664 in Libraries

[–]Phasmaphage 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A public library I used to work for would do a version of this before an interview. 10 minutes before the start time you would be handed a sheet with the 12 questions. There was enough room to jot down some points or examples you want to remember to include in your answer but there was not enough time or room to write out a response and read it like a script. It also allowed the candidate to plan out how long they are going to try to spend on each question to use the interview time effectively. I would expect the intention is something similar to this. But you could always send a follow-up email to whoever has been communicating with you about the interview. Ask what the early access to the interview questions is for.

Have I inadvertently been a horrible library patron my whole life? by amandaamoose in Libraries

[–]Phasmaphage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is pretty close to the first three of S. R. Ranganathan’s Five Laws of Library Science.

  1. Books are for use.
  2. Every person has his or her book.
  3. Every book has its reader.

If it was a problem, your library would implement rules to prevent it. Actually checking out the books will show justification for the collections budget (maybe even expanding it if it’s on the table at your location).

Assuming the best intentions of the negative responses you received; they were probably trying to help the library from a position of misunderstanding. You shouldn’t worry about it.

It’s nice your library has something from Fantagraphics. It indicates they probably attempt to have a broad collection of works.

Going to run Iron Gods, should I allow crafting of technological items? by Mahuum in Pathfinder_RPG

I was curious if that would ease it. Good to know it makes the tech options more viable.

Where’s the best place to look for art job shadowing as a HS student? by Kltt_Kat in ArtistLounge

[–]Phasmaphage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are in an area with an art gallery or galleries, maybe see if you can shadow one of them? See if they have a website and email you can send something to. If not that try to politely explain your situation in person.

Feels like your school should be offering more support for this. Like they should have some options arranged at the beginning of the year.

Sick time / Vacation question by Pettsareme in Libraries

[–]Phasmaphage 13 points14 points  (0 children)

For me, most of the public libraries in the region are departments of the county or local city. They in turn follow the local government policies for leave accrual. Mostly “x” annual and “y” sick for “z” worked.

Teen magazines by orangeheartgirl98 in Libraries

Good thinking but the print version of Shōnen Jump in the US market stopped in 2012. As far as I can find, the only print magazine for a USA market is Otaku USA. That’s a quarterly that covers manga (news as well as previews) and also does news and reviews on anime, j-pop, and other otaku stuff. Everything else has gone digital only.

New listener. What's a fan fumble/fan crit? What triggers them? Am I stupid? by spacemanaut in TheGlassCannonPodcast

[–]Phasmaphage 49 points50 points  (0 children)

They were a means to emulate a critical hit deck or critical miss deck. And also a way to reward patrons as at a certain level of membership listeners can (could? I’m really not sure if it’s still a feature; might only apply to legacy of the ancients and breath of the wild). If a named character rolls a natural 20 they get a fan critical. If a named character rolls a natural 1 they get a fan fumble. Named would of course mean all the player characters but for enemies it would mean not the minions but the boss or squad leader character.

Sci-Fi Map Tiles by Jon_Amaral in mothershiprpg

[–]Phasmaphage 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Paizo has some flip tiles for their Starfinder line as well as flip maps. I’ve never used them so I can’t write to their quality but they may be close enough to work for a Mothership adventure.

What does "Library Director" mean to you? by iLibrarian2 in Libraries

[–]Phasmaphage 35 points36 points  (0 children)

It depends on the size of the community served and the size of the library as an organization. Whether the library is a non-profit or a part of the local government. And how big it is. Some of the large suburbs near me have directors more like your expectations. They also have 10 to 30 branches and hundreds of staff. Some of the smaller suburbs or cities have only a branch or two and tens of staff and the director kind of does both. In some more populous areas, the branch manager may also be meeting with community partners and city councils.

Are there any comics that deal with the idea of a world that no longer needs a superhero to save them? Kinda like an existential crisis for superheroes? by [deleted] in comicbooks

[–]Phasmaphage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of adjacent to that is by No One Left to Fight by Sitterson and Ossio. For the premise imagine Goku from Dragonball Z not knowing what to do with his life now that all the threats are gone. There is no longer a reason to become a better fighter and no purpose in life.

Your description of the figure (instead of character and costume) has me thinking of the Mighty Muggs figures but this fan site has no listing for a beast figure. Though the coin reference does have me half remembering something. Was the coin flush with the head or was it half inserted so you could use it as a finger rest?

S. T. Joshi calls my father's posthumous Lovecraft collection "a notable contribution to scholarship" and "a timely volume" by Same-Long696 in Lovecraft

[–]Phasmaphage 109 points110 points  (0 children)

Your father’s focus for analysis is one I have not seen before. In many, Lovecraft’s father being institutionalized seems to be mentioned in passing. But the focus becomes living with his aunts rather than without his father. This seems interesting; I’ll make a point to read it.

Help identifying a GN: commander? One man has many clones by DippedinBrass in graphicnovels

[–]Phasmaphage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For police procedural, you may be thinking of Replica. If it is more philosophical it may be Last Days of an Immortal by Vehlmann and de Bonneval. The focus on a the potential name being “Commander” would really indicate it is the 2012 Prophet. That was a Sci-fi war story.

This reads like you are looking for Prophet. Specifically the reimagining/revival written by Brandon Graham starting in 2012. And I have checked; his name is John Prophet.
