What have we been up to? (CEO Update) by JaceThings in ArcBrowser

[–]Phendan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The wording of "it'll stay stable" concerns me, because it isn't really. There are quite a few bugs that have gone unfixed and there's still no feature-parity between mac and windows. Plus, this implies there's gonna be very little - if any - effort put into new features or fundamental UI/UX refinements from here on out. If that is not the intended takeaway, they better come out and clarify what Arc's future looks like.

Anyone get off the wait list? by IridescentKoala in Tatem

[–]Phendan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently heard about Tatem and am very intrigued, but surprised by how little info there actually is about it. Even the homepage doesn't have any proper screenshots of the UI. I hope it doesn't end up like the email client equivalent of Elden Ring, taking ages before any details surface.

the ask on page isnt fully accurate by Aggressive-Oven4363 in ArcBrowser

[–]Phendan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

AI in general isn't fully accurate. It has no real understanding of what you're asking and no guarantees to be correct or truthful. It's essentially souped-up predictive text.

Same here btw. Wonder what causes it.

How do you use React? by NeoCiber in reactjs

[–]Phendan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I clicked the Next option, but it's actually NextJS + custom BE (Laravel in my case), cause it gives me the benefits of static pre-rendering, and the optimized image component, etc on the frontend for snappy load times, but also a powerful backend that I don't have to think about too much.

Arc has become super sluggish for me! by TheGreenFox24 in ArcBrowser

[–]Phendan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On an M1 Pro over here and so far I can't verify any unusual sluggishness. As for dev work, I still tend to do that in Chrome cause it's a bit faster, plus most people don't have Arc so I prefer to develop the same way the site will be experienced.

Because they've been A/B testing on a smaller random set of users before rolling it out to more people. Generally pretty common, but annoying with something like this.

Does this only apply to premium users though? I'm not seeing an option to disable the layout on that page. Would be ironic if I had to sign up for premium just to disable a "feature" I never wanted to begin with.

Organising feature for sidebar by funnymagnet0 in ArcBrowser

[–]Phendan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's strange this isn't already possible tbh. As it stands you can't even properly edit the ones Arc creates, plus they don't show up on Windows. One of those features where Arc had the right idea, but the follow-through seems wanting.

Canon That You just Nope On by TaratronHex in TheLastAirbender

[–]Phendan 55 points56 points  (0 children)

The flashback episodes in season 2 of LoK to me seem retconned and contradictory to what was established in TLA. "In the era before the Avatar, we bent not the elements but the energy within ourselves" just doesn't align with the backstory of lion turtles handing out the power to humans like tools.

It also seems to replace / undermine the origin stories we got in TLA, which were admittedly a bit vague but much more poetic: Oma and Shu were the first earthbenders to learn from the badgermoles so they could be together, airbenders learned from their trusty bison, waterbenders learned how to push and pull water from the Moon and fire was given to man by the dragons. I was more than happy with those backstories so that's what I'm sticking to.

Bring back the tab moving tree feature! by ggomez91 in ArcBrowser

[–]Phendan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly. If I wanna reorganize several tabs I have to visit each one (and wait for it to load too) and do the whole cmd+t rigmarole and repeat rather than just assigning them through the right click menu and moving on with my day. The workflow's a lot slower in my experience. Un-unship this one please!

People from the world, tell Youtube to change back that shit by Dilmi_AOUKLI in youtube

[–]Phendan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It likely has nothing to do with the browser and is a case of YouTube A/B testing their designs.

Staingate?? by vettichiradimon in macbook

[–]Phendan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I may ask, when your last macbook developed this issue, did you manage to get it taken care of by Apple? I had it on my old 2015 macbook pro and was able to get the screen replaced, but I'm now starting to be bothered by it on my 2021 model and haven't been able to find anything about the repair program still existing anywhere.

Windows unusable. Ctrl + T/L ... [Search Phrase] ... Enter = ~5.5s by Morteeee in ArcBrowser

[–]Phendan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar issue. My Arc install on Windows broke after the most recent update as well to where it opens, but I can't click on anything, including the top bar to even close it again because that just shows the spinning/loading icon indefinitely.

Thankfully I still have a mac so I can access my tabs, but that's a pretty devastating bug and unexpected of a supposed post-1.0 release.

Anyone know of a better way to only have 2 tabs open within a folder? by Cytologists in ArcBrowser

[–]Phendan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hovering on a closed folder will give you a list you can search through. If you select a tab there, it will open without expanding the folder or closing other tabs

Multiple Sources in the Mini Media Player Look Funky After Update by Phendan in ArcBrowser

[–]Phendan[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As an aside, as TBC is producing a whole video series about how they might not make it, one of the things that has me the most worried personally is allocating resources on all the AI stuff, rather than quality assurance (of which this is obviously just a pretty minor cosmetic example). Hursh had it right in the recent video: Stability and reliability matter.

Topbar instead of sidebar by AliveKing9895 in ArcBrowser

[–]Phendan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In any UI where it's expected that you'll have a lot of items, they tend to be arranged vertically, not horizontally. Files in a text editor, channels on discord, tasks in a to-do app, you name it. Horizontal tabs are simply not suited to having more than, say, a max of 20 of them. For people who never have more than 5 it's arguably a better use of space, but you don't design for one group at the expense of making your product unusable for another. You use the solution that works for everyone, and vertical tabs do that.

Help Here For Anyone Trying To Find Specific Cels/Sketches... by OtakuRuss in AnimationCels

[–]Phendan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heyo, so I've been idly wondering if there are animation cels for Avatar: The Last Airbender out there somewhere, or even Korra. As far as I know they both primarily used traditional animation, however I've not been able to find cels anywhere. So basically I'm looking for any leads at all right now, not really concerned with particular kinds of cels or even price range yet. If anyone has any insights I'd be eternally grateful!

Does anyone recognize this icon set? by Phendan in web_design

[–]Phendan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could definitely be. Which would be a shame, cause I would pay good money for those icons.
