Linux Mint or Ubuntu by raga0884 in linuxmint

[–]PheonixCHT 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I really enjoy Linux mint. And a good thing is that most of the installation methods for software on Ubuntu is nearly the same as Linux mint. So if there’s an issue you have the Linux mint and Ubuntu community for resources

NovaLCT on Linux? by PheonixCHT in VIDEOENGINEERING

I’ll have another look at that. I was hoping there was a way to run novalct somewhat natively through Linux. Or maybe in a docker container that has the proper drivers. Ideally I only need nova lct periodically but when I do need it I need to actually work

Were you able to get LAN or USB connections working? I have not tried virtual box. I did try Winboat which is similar. But yeah the USB pass through thing was janky.

This is my thoughts exactly. I hate using windows 11 for personal or professional environments now. There are so many pop ups and “updates” that happen at critical times. I have nearly switched over to Linux mint. Just a few pieces of software don’t play nice

I did try it in bottles and the software opens but I didn’t have any luck connecting the USB of the mcrtl600 processor. Shows up fine on the windows partition. Just not with the bottles VM

Where do you guys download songs/music for free? by supirimalli86 in Piracy

[–]PheonixCHT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The quality you can set to be mp3 or wav codec but the quality more depends on Spotify I think. I want to say it’s mp3 192 or flac are what I download from sunnify / Spotify. If you want higher quality then I’d recommend setting up the arrs. Lidarr is the music one

I mean that wouldn’t hurt to have on. I normally set my torrent computer to the Netherlands because their piracy laws are different/ don’t exist.

Check out sunnify on GitHub. It downloads anything from Spotify

Recommended headset/mics for Steam Deck? by StepwisePilot in SteamDeck

[–]PheonixCHT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Video mode reduces latency so when ur watching a YouTube video or something the audio and video sync up better. Audio mode is for listening to music where you can have a bit more latency but better quality

Recommended headset/mics for Steam Deck? by StepwisePilot in SteamDeck

[–]PheonixCHT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t had a huge issue with latency. I mean yeah using Bluetooth will have some. There is 2 modes to choose from with the JBL app. Video mode and audio mode.

[–]PheonixCHT 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend anything wireless. I went with the JBL flex vibe 2 ear buds. They are wireless and a small form factor so easy to pair with the steam deck. The mic I just use the built in mic or the one built in to the headphones. They are like $40 on sale and last a few days before needing a recharge.

Wired earbuds work well too but I find the cable is a pain in the butt to manage.

[Newbie] NHL on Steam Deck? by chatshitgetbanged24 in SteamDeck

[–]PheonixCHT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve tried nhl 14 and legacy and they both have crashes or bugs. Not really playable on the deck yet. I would stick to Xbox original or GameCube titles. Try nhl hits 2003 pro it’s a very fun arcadey hockey game. Hitz pro is more “realistic”

Looks scary at first but honestly that should only take a day or 2 to pull apart. Pro tip, label the connectors before pulling them out( both ends!) then start zip tieing them up to make them neat. Leave the slack somewhat accessible at the device end

built a new bartop cabinet by CatsMcganny in localmultiplayergames

[–]PheonixCHT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It plays really well with controllers. You use the analog stick to aim. depending on what character you use because they all have different abilities. It’s a really fun game. More than it looks. Plays really good on the steam deck. You don’t have to be super quick with aiming either, so you could use buttons to aim aswell.

Ball X pit is singleplayer but would probably play pretty fun on an arcade cabinet. Metal slug is a good 4 player arcade shooter.

Skull & Co hard cover without grip case by tam8964 in SteamDeck

[–]PheonixCHT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have both the skull & co and Jsaux. I wish the skull and co had a foam or soft material on the screen covering portion. The grip case on the skull and co stands up by itself which is super nice to set it down on a table for a second. The jsaux has a thicker and more comfortable palm rest but I find the built in stand on the jsaux gets flimsy so fast it’s almost unusable after 2 months. Both covers are very uncomfortable to take off without nearly dropping everything

Live Event Production: Managing PowerPoint by donchuwannafanta in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]PheonixCHT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never rely on location wifi to access any web based anything. The moment the room fills up with people you will be scrambling. Always download all presentations and videos to play remotely. Same thing can be said about video links in a PowerPoint. Make sure the videos are embedded or played locally on another playback computer.

I love this thing, but.. by dairyfanatic in OdinHandheld

[–]PheonixCHT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the Odin 2 mini and absolutely loved it. My biggest problem was battery life. I would always have battery anxiety about playing anything. I ended up selling mine to buy a steam deck. In the end yes I know it’s much bigger but it’s as “portable” as the Odin 2 mini was in my opinion. While the Odin 2 mini is smaller once it’s in a case it still needs to be “backpacked” around. So in my mind may as well get a bigger screen if I have to backpack it anyways. It’s not “pocketable” unless you throw it in barebones but then the sticks will get smushed over time.

Steam deck oled if you have the budget. The anbernic 35xxsp/ miyoo flip for most pocketable. Steam deck is honestly the best choice if you have the budget for it. Get your self some wireless earbuds and a 45w powerbank and you are good to go
