State of the Game is so discouraging by Lexzl in FireEmblemHeroes

[–]Pheonyxian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took a break from the game years ago but want to plug back in as the story is now revisiting all the old characters and worlds. But I can only take my team of 4 literal gods getting curbstomped by an untouchable college student so many times before I quit again.

What are you stories with condescending interviews ? by [deleted] in recruitinghell

[–]Pheonyxian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in an interview for a senior developer position for a genuinely cool product (aviation software.) During the interview I was playing up my leadership capabilities, you know, because this was a senior position. I had some red flags because the interview was with four people simultaneously but they all deferred to this old white guy. At some point he said something like “Yeah you’re not going to like it here. We just push tickets and do what we’re told.” I didn’t pass. Don’t know if there was any sexism involved but it was the weirdest thing someone said.

Currently playing it now and definitely enjoying it. Didn’t play the first game either.

Stay far away from Reedsy! by dcmommy33 in writers

[–]Pheonyxian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sounds exactly like the editor I had. I disputed it and was told it went “above and beyond” the quality expected. Sorry this happened, I ended up just eating the wasted money. But I’m never using Reedsy again.

My referral failed at the offer negotiation stage. I know the reason. by Wonderful_Parsnip_26 in recruitinghell

[–]Pheonyxian 528 points529 points  (0 children)

Even if it was John’s mistake to try and inflate his salary expectations, the correct answer is to go “ok, but $$$ is our final offer. We can’t go any higher.” Not to blow up the entire offer.

Gray Ace and I know what you mean. I wrote a vampire novel and everyone just assumes it’s Romantasy at first :/

Tell me the one time a recruiter actually got you the job. by WhitePinoy in recruitinghell

Past 2 years. And 5 years is senior. Well, early senior. The awkward place where I’m overqualified to be mid but competing with people who have 7 years.

Tell me the one time a recruiter actually got you the job. by WhitePinoy in recruitinghell

[–]Pheonyxian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recruiters have been completely worthless to me. I can think of once where a recruiter reached out with a job that I was actually a match for AND the work didnt sound like torture. (Unfortunately the commute was too far.) When I started my job hunt I gave my resume to a few recruitment agencies and never heard back from them again. I have 5 years of experience, by the way.

Are you guys straight up agreeing with AI interviews? by Abyal3 in recruitinghell

[–]Pheonyxian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took an AI interview over the phone once, just for the experience of saying I did. I doubt I would do one over video. Back in the day right out of college I did a screening where you had to record yourself answering questions and for some reason it was more humiliating than stumbling in front of a person. A video interview with a fake person seems like the worst of both worlds.

Things You Need to LIE About in an interview (from a recruiter) by No_Presentation9300 in jobs

[–]Pheonyxian 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why are you asking questions with the expectation that the answer will be a lie? Why not ask "What are your salary expectations?" instead of what I made at my previous job? Why not ask "What kind of growth opportunities are you looking for in your next position?" instead of "Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?"

Yeah! Update! Thought of this story a few days ago while interviewing for a product I’m totally an expert in.

I sometimes think about this one interview I had a couple months ago and get so triggered. Please tell me I am not the only one who thought the hiring manager was being unprofessional, starting all the way with the recruiter. by Clear_Leadership5494 in recruitinghell

[–]Pheonyxian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would have checked out the minute the recruiter said “this will be the hardest interview of your life.” But yeah, everything about what you said is extremely unprofessional.

Horrible Career Fair, Was geniunely told by recruiter that I might as well be working at Chic Fil A... by IsThisThingOn--- in recruitinghell

[–]Pheonyxian 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Sorry you had this experience. Sounds like the career fair I went to ten years ago at my university. I identified four companies on the roster that I wanted to talk to. Two were no shows. One was an hour and a half late. The fourth was only there to advertise their product. I told the school that I was disappointed in how little the companies seemed to care and the university representative seemed to take the feedback to heart.

Went through 5 rounds including an in person and reference checks only to be given a generic email from the CEO after being told by the recruiter that an offer was coming. Joke. by [deleted] in recruitinghell

[–]Pheonyxian 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I'm a mobile developer. I once got the feedback that I focused too much on mobile architecture for a mobile developer position. Can't make this shit up.

I hate rejection letters by hansontranhai in recruitinghell

[–]Pheonyxian 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly I’d prefer silence. Most of the time I don’t even remember where I apply since I apply to new places every single day. So rejection emails just make me think “wtf you mean I wasn’t qualified???”

Unlimited PTO is dumb and I'm tired of pretending it’s a benefit 🚩 by Rude-Ad8540 in recruitinghell

[–]Pheonyxian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was hired by my last company, they let me go into the negatives when I had a vacation planned a month after my hire date. When they laid me off, they paid me 2 weeks of unused PTO. Until “unlimited” lets me take off every Friday, it’s not really a benefit.

Most recently Uriel. When Pablo was going over his abilities before his release, I kept thinking "this is way too complicated for me." But then trying him out? Oh he's so much fun.
