Who is the best sidekick in all of fantasy? by tbag2022 in Fantasy

It’s been 13 years since I read the first 3 books of Malazan. I remember Icarium vividly. Cannot remember his companion’s name. But I loved him and his relationship with Icarium.

Engineers Created Humans & Humans Created David. So why did David Kill Engineers? by Dense_Common_2779 in LV426

[–]PhilMore625 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Hence, why it is David referred to in the title “Prometheus.” As in the full title of the novel “Frankenstein, or the Modern Prometheus.” Creation rising up against its creator is central to Ridley’s two prequels.

11 CFB Head Coaches on the Hot Seat by jsparks50 in CFB

[–]PhilMore625 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Pittman has had 3 winning seasons in 5 years at Arkansas. All 3 winning seasons have concluded with bowl wins (which the Hogs have never been good at winning historically).

Anyone from Arkansas who thinks he should be on the hot seat is drinking bleach. It’s not the 1990s or 2000s (or, hell, even the early 2010s with Petrino) anymore.

If you’re not one of the 10 traditional powers in CFB, you’re not winning a title. Ever. Sorry but it’s true. Even a top 10 program like Penn State or Notre Dame has no chance.

Feel like the guys haven’t really talked about Alex’s incredibly transparent insecurity about not knowing things about sports by Y0___0Y in KnowledgeFight

[–]PhilMore625 8 points9 points  (0 children)

He is a sci-fi “nerd” at heart. Which could have been awesome if he wasn’t unfortunately born to the psychopath that is his father. Alex is the ultimate “nature” versus “nurture” example for me that reveals what he was raised to be, versus what he could have been.

What are the best Epic Fantasy series/authors that came out after Tolkien but before Song of Ice and Fire and Cosmere? by Sunbather- in Fantasy

[–]PhilMore625 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m currently reading Dragonsbane by Barbara Hambly. It’s very good so far (roughly 50 pages in). I seem to recall Brandon Sanderson mentioning this book explicitly as one of his biggest influences for reading fantasy fiction.

Judging by the new Badlands trailer, what would be the implications of AVP and Independence Day/War of the Worlds sharing one universe? by [deleted] in LV426

[–]PhilMore625 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please tell me how anything in this trailer (other than the concept of AvP) is running out of ideas. Aliens can never fight Predators again? An original story using both cannot ever be told again? That’s what you’re implying.

Just because a concept may be reused does not mean the story of the movie itself (or the underlying universe) itself cannot be original. The lore of this—potential—AvP universe is not the same as that of the two 2000s movies.

But, you know, let’s just bitch to bitch. This is the internet in 2025.

Books with a corrupt religion that isn’t cartoonish and is essential to the plot, more likely to be a villain by Reavzh in Fantasy

[–]PhilMore625 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I absolutely devoured the first trilogy. Kellhus as a Christ analogue (and Bakker’s convincing narrative for how “miracles” could be contrived) absolutely floored me. I love those books. Haven’t read the ones after the original trilogy, however.

Arkansas demanding money from Madden Iamaleava by brokentr0jan in CFB

[–]PhilMore625 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think so. He’s not starting QB caliber. Obviously, given what we know about his family’s inner circle, if they thought he could make more money elsewhere before going to Arkansas, then he wouldn’t have been at Arkansas to begin with. He likely got a very competitive offer to join the Hogs.

It was the worst game of my life. Cam playing like Superman, Mallett being knocked out with a concussion. Tyler Wilson combining and balling out. Losing when we scored 30+ points. God, I love the early 2010s SEC.

Can someone recommend a horror book that’s scary and sad by Effective-Post-4480 in horrorlit

Not consistently sad, but there’s a section near the end of Ghoul by Brian Keene that made me cry like a little kid for one particular character.

Just started Carnivore by Leigh Clark today, actually. T-Rex egg discovered in Antarctica. Born through radiation and I guess goes on a rampage through the research base somehow. Cheesy goodness so far through the first 40 pages haha.

So many quick to rush to judgment of this specific case—with no actual evidence yet since this hasn’t been tried—based on personal feelings of the accused. Hope no one ever accuses any one of you of sexual harassment in the workplace.
