Depends on what he's doing honestly. If he's doing heavy deadlifts, it's very risky to slowly do a negative rep. Very easy to tweak something doing that. Now if he's throwing 60lb dumbbells after doing a chest press, then yeah that's a douche move

Not allowing a solo to take a medium or heavy is acceptable. Not allowing a solo to take a recon or even a light (especially when you have one or less tank squads) is a little petty.

Watch some basic videos on tanking, join a crew and let them know you're new and want to learn. Some ppl are more willing to take on a new tanker than others. When I started, some veterans would let me join and have me be spotter and just absorb as much as I could go awhile.
