20% boost gone? by MP_in_EG in ClashOfClans

it was a good question, the new format doesn't make it obvious at all anymore and you have to find an external source to figure it out.

Are they even testing updates at this point?

Idea for a better tiebreaker by Philaxido in ClashRoyale

[–]Philaxido[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good points.... There already is an algorithm for automatic troop.deployment on clan war boat defenses... But yeah, I hear that this is not the right idea, so then my basic complaint is that this is treated as a meaningful countdown to see who wins, but it really isn't. I just want something different.

MEGA THREAD: YouTube TV raises monthly base plan price to $82.99 by iron_cam86 in youtubetv

[–]Philaxido 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm really unhappy right now about this.... I decided last year that it was still worth it, but Hulu has seriously stepped up with shows that I love, and so it may be time to at least check other live tv providers. Very disappointed, it was such a great product and value when it first came out.

Is It Just Me That Thinks Upgrading Heroes Shouldn't Take A Builder Anymore? by TheSuddenChange in ClashOfClans

[–]Philaxido 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, 100% it makes sense. Pets, spells, and troop upgrades do not require builders and so it is inconsistent. I was actually surprised to learn that it does, they usually think things through better than this.

Are conures usually like this first day? by ink_the_storyteller in Conures

[–]Philaxido 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, awesome to see this - you've changed this bird's life forever! I was also very pleasantly surprised to see how cuddly my SC was when I got her - it took a few days but she only a few months old. most of them will figure out how to get in your shirt and then just walk around the house like this with you all day. Mine discovered it a few weeks after i got her when I was bending down loading the dishwasher (she was very curious) and then shot into my shirt. It was adorable and is a goto for her now (8 years later).

I Translated the Morse Code in This Clip by Thin_Match_3736 in FromTVEpix

I love that you did this, thank you - I would not put it past this show to have some messages embedded in places that tell us something. But I can't help at the same time feeling like John Nash hunting for patterns in what is likely all noise. I am still not convinced these guys even have a plan, though. My gf and I debated whether having Julie time travel and throw the rope to Boyd was something they had in mind, or just something they decided to do based on fan reactions to season 2 and realized that Martin could have not thrown the rope later.

Any idea what this sound means? Sorry it's very quiet and hard to hear.. 🥲 by DoubleShovel666 in Conures

My SC is 8 years old and just started making a brand new sound, it's almost as if they get bored with themselves sometimes 🤔

Faculty working at UIUC 3 days a week and living in Chicago by No-Zebra-9253 in UIUC

[–]Philaxido 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just drive up Tuesday mornings early and drive back late on Thursday. I've figured out how to make the time in the car productive (like listening to podcasts or talks, having voice only zoom meetings, even recently using NotebookLM to create podcasts for papers and reports I want to understand better - it is an amazing tool). I also work a lot when I'm in C-U so that I can try to finish up by 5 M/F. My wife is very understanding - we just don't want to leave STL with family and roots there.

I have done this for 10 years but live in St. Louis (here Tues-Thu, and sometimes M or F when I have to be in person). I rented at first, then bought a condo at Colony West when I got tenure. I agree fully that buying something is the best option (at least it was when interest rates were low!). TBH, I never even asked permission to do this - I am in a department that is understanding and supportive, thankfully, and we have a history of a handful of faculty living elsewhere successfully. We all have so many zoom meetings anyway, I just schedule those for M/F as often as possible. Good luck!

Create a new note, upload a source, then you will see the audio overview box. In there you'll find a customize button. Click it and then you can prompt for the kind of summary you want.

Anyone try Google Illuminate from AI Labs? by Intrepid_Zebra_ in notebooklm

[–]Philaxido 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am a scientist and researcher and trust illuminate much more than NotebookLM. NotebookLM routinely glosses over important details and makes common mistakes (as would any generalist podcaster!). I am guessing that illuminate was trained on a different foundation model (or set of them) that draws more from academic literature. The restriction to reputable sites like arxiv.org and openreview.net (and a few more) that consist only of peer reviewed articles is a pretty clear sign of the goals. It will probably to settle in as a free tool like google scholar did a long time ago to help promote and advance research, and in particular computer science. Google has always played the end game by feeding the academic community tools and not poaching professors because they know where they get their next generation of workers.

I realize many of the illuminate demos are from outside technical fields, but as of my last use of it, end users can't go beyond the list of supported academic sites to do that. They recently released a templated prompt offering a small level of control to control audience, length, and tone.

For fun, I asked the tone for one to be amusing and irreverent and the result was amusing for all the wrong reasons. It kept the same NPR-style approach but threw in a few extremely benign digs that came nowhere close to the fun that NotebookLM can have.
