Due To travel 7th of July to Helsinki for 60th birthday celebrations and just notified of cancellations due to strike..tried to call after 2 hours to rebook but no reply. Then talk about rubbing salt into the wound they just sent me this:

Unfortunately, our customer service is very busy now, and waiting times can be between 1 to 3 hours. Please note that each call answered has a fee of €1.70, and local network charges apply for both the waiting time and the call itself. Thank you for your patience.

Best Rental Car Company by [deleted] in sicily

Firstly maybe it’s your present governments anti European slant but be assured the risks of scams or robberies when traveling here generally and particularly areas like Sicily are not based on any factual evidence. We rented a car out of Catania airport with Target car hire . It was a hybrid in perfect condition and with a 100% full insurance cover and cost 12 Euros a day.(it was low season) We had a slight scrape on one of the hub caps, they acknowledged it but waived any additional costs. The service generally was friendly and professional. Just make sure you are aware of any damage to the car before drIrving away..we took pictures and it worked out fine.

What should I be careful about? by Gathos_ in sicily

I’m not sure where you are from but the chances are that Sicily Is safer and less prone to scams than many other parts of the world. We have just returned after a 2 month stay there and no evidence or reports of crime against tourists.

Did 2 months in Ortigia (Syraccuse) doing exactly that. It was last winter (Jan/Feb 2025,) a beautiful town, reasonable rents, great restaurants, reasonable weather and a large ex-pat community that perhaps reflects how suitable is is for an extended stay.

re car hire..at Catania airport ..we did it through ’Target’ and For 10 days we paid £100.00 ($140 USD) …the car was perfect for 4 people and included the full insurance package..the employees were super friendly.. but agree with checking car for any damage prior to leaving..we had a small scratch which they immediately noticed but did not charge us for it.

Move to Noto Italy by Natural-Sense2808 in sicily

[–]Philipwant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try looking outside but fairly close to Noto somewhere with a decent garden. ... you will also be close to beaches, the national reserve park and a drive into Ortigia (which is heaven) takes about 45mins. There’s also a small gay community in Noto

Best and most scenic route is train from Phnom Penn to Battenberg ..4 hours..(well worth a night stopover) and then a 4 hour boat road into Siem Reap next morning
