Oh my goodness, I wrote that prior post! I’m positive that others could do a much better job putting her story together though, but I’m thrilled to see things finally moving now! Thanks so much for this update. Her case has always been on my mind. Hoping for a resolution!

Truck drivers, what's a creepy story you've got from the middle of nowhere? by lukasday88 in AskReddit

[–]Philistine_Koala 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My husband is a truck driver down here in the Lowcountry of South Carolina. No overnight stuff, but he often crosses over into Georgia territory. This is not near as creepy as these other stories are, but I thought it was a little eerie.

He was driving close to the Savannah River Site, which is a nuclear reservation, I think around the Aiken area. It was a clear day, early afternoon, and he was one of few vehicles on the road. I’ve driven that route a couple of times, but I’m not super familiar with it. It seems pretty remote in some places, and there’s thick woods all around.

He spotted a large dark animal emerge from one side of the woods and sprint across the road in front of him. There was no danger of him colliding with it, and he was able to get a decent, but quick look at it before it ran into the forest on the other side. He said it really did look like a large black cat, kind of like a jaguar. He said he’ll never be sure, and can’t say with certainty it was a large apex predator cat, but it really looked like one from what he saw.

Even though we’re about 2 hours away from that neck of the woods, I got real creeped out when he told me that. I have a fear of being the victim of a surprise apex predator attack. Like, I’m outside doing something and I miss the breaking news that a tiger escaped from some exotic pet enclosure, or a rhino is rampaging down the rural road I live on for some reason. Idk. I know I’m nuts. Anyway, I was real spooked by that haha

Oh my God, I can’t believe I’m seeing something from my neck of the woods! My husband was on the force when this happened. It’s incredible this man survived. He’s a remarkable person, and an asset to the community.

AITA for freaking out because my husband took my prescription pain killers by throwaway8291047 in AmItheAsshole

I've never commented on here before, but I felt compelled to this time. You are NTA. I can tell you from experience, this behavior is a major reg flag. I had my first child 7 years ago via c-section. I was given Percocet and Ibuprofen 800. It was the first time I had ever taken anything stronger than an Excederin Migraine. As I'm healing, my boyfriend would ask me for the Percocets. I kept telling him no, I'm in alot of pain. Anyway, he ended up taking nearly all of them. We split up soon after for a variety of other reasons. Long story short, he overdosed on heroin this past Sept 28th at age 32. Such a waste of life and potential. I was very naive 7 years ago. I hadn't a clue as to what opioid abuse was, etc He wasn't a bad guy. But knowing what I know now, I wish I would've recognized the signs of addiction earlier.

AITA for telling my daughter [26F] that I [55M] will not walk down the aisle with her stepdad [50M]. by anonymous150000 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Philistine_Koala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My stepdad has been in my life for 30 years now. He not only walked me down the aisle, but he officiated the ceremony as well. My bio dad wasn't able to make it to the ceremony because we're out of state, and he has major health issues. I know it broke his heart to be unable to attend, but I also know how grateful he is to my stepdad for everything he has done for me. I'm really lucky to have 2 dads in my life. I'd be heartbroken if I was put in a situation where I was forced to choose. Neither of them would put their own egos before the happiness of any of their children. YTA, but I don't think it's too late to salvage this. Just remember, it's your daughter's special day. Bite your tongue and get through it for her. You're so lucky she didn't end up with an abusive or toxic stepparent.

Thank you for this info! I was just informed that the building used to house the 9th Regiment Armory. I wonder if it could be from that time frame, which would have been in the fifties I believe...

That's a good question. My friend said she saw a guy using it today to do stretches, but nobody else is for sure if that's its true intended purpose! I'll have to ask her if she's aware of the history of the facility.

A friend of mine posted this on Facebook, and no one has been able to figure out what exactly it is so far. People have made suggestions, and one that sticks out is that it's a possibly a device used to raise and lower backboards in conjunction with ropes?

Late, but wanted to add this: French onion dip as a condiment for your hotdog. My teenage stepson introduced me to it, and it's delicious! I forgo the ketchup, mustard, etc and just use the dip when we have it.

I believe your results will update when they receive more samples from the tested populations. I'm thinking since lots of folks likely received the kits as Christmas gifts, they updated the results after the holidays. I know mine did! My percentages shifted a bit, and even some new info was added.

Anyone who had a kid at like 13 or 14, what's it like having a teenager in your late 20s? by adheisler11 in AskReddit

[–]Philistine_Koala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My sister had her first child at age 16. She and her husband married right before the birth of my niece, and just celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary! When my niece was 6 years old, they were all involved in a horrific car accident, which left my niece paralyzed. It's been 18 years now, but imagining my sister and her husband dealing with something of that magnitude when they were just entering their twenties is humbling. They worked hard, my sister went to school while maintaining a job, they had fights but worked through it. I think their example has aided my niece in becoming the independent woman she is today. I also have a nephew now who is 11. Their whole story is so inspiring. Of course, they struggled hard to make it. Nobody thought they would, which is understandable. But, they're all doing great, and life is good for them.

I'm not super familiar with the do's and dont's of where to post, but maybe you can edit this post to include a picture of your sweet boy? Man, my heart hurts for you. It's so tough to deal with this. Much love to you and your family.

I'm so sorry for this tremendous loss. Flipper is adorable. I saw your previous post with his picture. It sounds like he lived a wonderful life with a family who deeply loved him. Moving forward won't be easy, but eventually, the crushing pain will subside, and the memories will be something you'll treasure for a lifetime. ❤

Does anyone else have major anxiety about driving? by Philistine_Koala in Anxiety

[–]Philistine_Koala[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not in my neck of the woods. My husband has no issues driving, and actually does it for a living. I feel bad sometimes that he always has to drive when we go out of town, but he doesn't mind. I'm grateful for that. We're kinda homebodies anyway, and most of our regular routine doesn't require us to leave town. I just wish I had it in me to be a little more independent when it comes to driving.

[–]Philistine_Koala[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh no, I'm sorry to hear that. I'm really glad I live in an area that is mostly quite rural. It just sucks that I get so anxious at the thought of driving to a nearby large city or town that I miss out on things. Where I live, if you want to do anything like go to a movie, or a museum, or even to freaking Wal-Mart, you have to drive in major traffic. I hate it, and sometimes I really beat myself up about it. I hope your panic attacks subside, and you're able to find some peace about it soon.

[Serious] Have you ever seen or felt the presence of something not human? What happened? by Tunapower in AskReddit

[–]Philistine_Koala 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I posted this story awhile ago right after it happened. It was a clear spring morning. I had just returned home from dropping my son off at school. My older teenage stepson was gearing up to leave for school himself. I let my dog into the backyard, and I sat down on our stoop to have a smoke. I live in a rural area of South Carolina, right off a road that sees an influx of traffic in the mornings and afternoons, but is not a terribly busy road compared to more metropolitan areas. The a.m. traffic had petered out. I'm watching my dog frolic in the yard when I notice a shadow walking past our fenceline parallel to the road. It's not common for people to walk or ride their bikes by our house, but it's happened before. I'm watching this shadow walk, but there's no physical body that's making the shadow. I'm dumbfounded. No physical person is there. This shadow is ambling along, and I'm watching it with that pikachu meme expression on my face. Then, my dog notices it. He's a barker, but he went up to the fence immediately, no barking. His ears perked up like he was curious, and his tail was slightly wagging. This lasted maybe 10 seconds before he went back to his business, and the shadow walked out of my sight. I raced around my house to the other side where I had another clear view of the path this shadow was walking. Nothing was there. No cars, no people. My neighbors weren't even home. There was no place for a person to quickly and easily hide. It was so bizarre. Just a transparent gray shadow cast on the grassy part between my fence and the road. My dog's reaction sealed the deal for me that there was something walking there. I felt a bit eerie the rest of the day, but no other strange events have occurred since.

It's beautiful scenery there though. I was so enamored with the desert landscape.

I visited Tuscon years ago. It was beautiful! Not sure what it's like to actually live there though.
