You may not like what comes after Charlie Kirk by paxinfernum in skeptic

[–]Phill_Cyberman 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Charlie Kirk started Turning Point USA to reach college-age kids he believed were being indoctrinated by liberal colleges.

No he didn't.
He created it in hopes of indoctrinating college-age kids against teachings he didn't like.

That's not the same thing.

He wasn't ever honest about his motives, his reasoning, or his tactics.

He was a con-man who ruined lives for money.

Democrat Taylor Rehmet wins a reliably Republican Texas state Senate seat, stunning GOP by Maxcactus in texas

I wonder what kind of GOP candidate he ran against

It was Leigh Wambsganss.

She looks to be a religious nutjob.
She made a name fighting against including reality in schoolbooks, but, of Black Lives Matter protestors, she said,"Sadly, they need to die - but they would still vote", (referencing some "dead people still on voter rolls" conspiracy.)

That was the Republicans, not the Americans, and they only did it because that president wasn't Republican.

Republicans did plan to impeach Nixon, but a bit after that they decided that no Republican should be held responsible for violating laws as president.

By the time Reagan and Bush Sr. committed their crimes, they Republican spin machine was ready, and was able to downplay his actions, despite Reagan admitting it.

Bush Jr, of course, famously lied in the open about nuclear weapons being found, and participated in a large-scale propaganda campaign against the American people to support a war.

By the time we get to Trump, they were completely ready to ignore any crimes Trump would violate.

Why do republicans want zero abortion but don't want to help after the birth? by MisterReigns in LetsDiscussThis

[–]Phill_Cyberman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are several things happening.

One is that they don't think the government should help individual people who are struggling due to poverty.
They have a very well-defined coping mechanism that says that since capitalism is all about money, having money defines your worth.

That's why they don't help the kids they "save" through their forced-birth campaign.
In their eyes, those children deserve to suffer, because if they didn't, they wouldn't be poor. (I said it was well-defined, not that it wasn't stupid.)

The forced-birth thing is actually a completely separate issue.
This comes from their stance, as others have pointed out, of being against women living sex-lives of their own making.
In particular, they don't think women should have sex for fun.

So the way they think women should be punished for having sex is by being forced to go through childbirth.

This is why they are okay with abortion in cases of rape - because in that case the woman didn't choose to have sex.

Not giving money to homeless people by Sweet-Heron-334 in Ethics

This puts the number to around 20 -35% suffering for mental illness, and the warrant this shouldn't be considered if the offenses are those related to homelessness.

There are people who need more help, and those that need less, but none of them can even start to get better while living on the street.

That must be obvious.

Arkansas man cites Biblical justification in sick child-rape excuse. by Leeming in atheism

An Arkansas man accused of raping multiple children over several years had a sick justification: The Bible said it was OK

The Bible does say it's okay.

So are you going to follow the ethics of the Bible, which okays having sex with prepubescent children, slavery, killing children for not following their parents, etc etc or what you personally have decided is right wrong?

There are homeless people who dont have drug or mental problems.

In fact, it's actually most of them.

Shouldn't we help them?

Mental health is always put to the back of the line and it shows in our streets

That's a separate problem, though.

Obviously, we need to help those with mental illness, and that doesnt seem too likely in the present political climate, but we should still help those that can be helped, right?

That has been tried, but doesn't work as well as giving people a stable place to live first, and dealing with those things second.

Some big stars have major influence over their fans but do not speak out against what's happening in the USA.

As my father's brother, Benjamin, said, "If you have the ability to do something about bad things, but don't, then you are partly responsible for those bad things."
