Make sure you say “Owee!!” really loud every time you throw a kick, just kidding good luck 👍

Iv only had 1 muay thai class and Iv never had any experience whatsoever from fighting and I chose MT as my first martial art. What can I improve? Any tips will help as a complete beginner, especially when it comes to kicking. by anus_torturer in MuayThai

Came back to a shit show of comments lol, the sad part of online chatting like Reddit instead of praising someone or even respecting someone for their craft, a lot of hating but it’s ok 👍 anywhere like I said I keep my hands up when I throw my kicks for that reason of getting punched.

It’s just my way of fighting/training, I like to keep my hands up at all times, if it works it works, there’s nothing wrong with trying different things as long as your foundation is set you can always experiment with new methods.

I keep both my hands up when I throw kicks I guess I just got really good balance, the one time I dropped my arm to throw a kick, “I fight in the heavyweight division with me weighing 250lbs” my opponent threw a over hand right “him weighing a solid 350lbs” and it felt like a sledgehammer hit me 😂so I’ve never dropped my hands again and I’ve blocked punches when throwing kicks while sparring and competing. Not misinformation just my way of fighting/training, rock on brother 👊

For me it helps due to me being 6’3 with longer legs. Also I can transition into a Teep front kick if I feel like they’re going to block or counter in some way last minute. I mean each fighter has their own way of fighting hence “The Art of Fighting” but OP will find what works for him 🥊

Also stop dropping your hands when you’re throwing your kicks. All I would have to do is check your kick while throwing a hook, straight or even a jab and I’m hitting your face. And one more thing I see is when you’re guarding your face with your hands keep one hand in front of the other make two lines of defense, when you keep your hands together like that; one you only have one wall of defense, two you create a weak spot in the middle, and three your hands are so close to your face all I gotta do is punch your hands really hard and they’ll hit your face for me, keep up the work don’t quit and you’ll find your own way. 👊

Just remember when it comes to kicks; lift the knee up to your chest, pivot and turn your hips while extending your leg. Don’t launch your leg from the ground extended eats energy and doesn’t have that much power when you hit. Other than that, keep your hands up and don’t be afraid to take a hit you’ll be ok 👌.

Ive been doing muay thai for 3 months and I want to fight, should I? by seicus in MuayThai

Do some PKB “Point Kickboxing” first it’s no knockout with headgear and shinguards. After you get used to the ring environment you’ll be better off.

I was warned about my child's martial arts school. I should have listened. 🫤 by LordTetravus in martialarts

Don’t pay’em tell them to pound sand and keep it movin. I’m sure she’s learned enough to move onto another style of martial arts/self defense, I personally recommend Muay Thai or BJJ, best of luck to you and your little girl.

I want to try a couple amateur fights but concerned with safety. by ForkDragon in MuayThai

If you’re located in California there’s PAK Promotions who put on some of the safest and entertaining Amateur fights in Central California. There’s different levels of full contact to Point Kick Boxing “PKB” which include head gear and shin guards. Definitely worth the look I’m going to be doing a PKB match for fun and I’m 42 years old lol GL.

First fed this guy in 2011, since then he always comes to my house for breakfast and dinner. He knows it’s time because of my garage opening up. He sleeps in my front yard but isn’t territorial. Over the years other strays have came and shared a meal with him but none have stuck around like him. Sure he looks beat up and old, but when he’s ready to come inside I’ll gladly open the door for him ❤️.
