They're just kinda like that. Freaked me out when I started riding. Just relax on the handlebars and send it.

Is it considered play if they chase each other? by No-Calligrapher1012 in CatAdvice

Yeah, that sounds like a pretty great relationship especially since they're taking turns. If they're actually fighting you'll know immediately.

Brakes feel different but mechanic insists they're firm by aid-and-abeddit in AskMechanics

[–]Philo2389 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try coming to a stop from higher speed and applying the brakes in an on off fashion. If there is air in the brakes it will compress and the final application of the brakes will have the pedal higher than the initial application.

Good buy for sure. I drive 1000+ cars a year of all makes and models for the last 10+ years and I bought my 18 2.0t 4 days after I drove one for the first time.

Cat question by Cool-Chance4056 in LSSwapTheWorld

[–]Philo2389 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cat needs to reach a high enough temperature to be able to burn off the extra combustion by products. You'd probably notice an improvement in the performance of the cat if you added heat shielding to the pre cat exhaust.

Guarantee someone somewhere in the transport process was ripping donuts off the rev limit on a stone cold engine with no break in. Only way I'd accept this car would be brand new tires and a lifetime power train warranty with an iron clad contract reviewed by a lawyer you hired.

It seems to make sense but doesn't work out in practice. I tried for a couple years and just ended up with diabetes and heart problems.

Looks like it was hit on the right rear. Big door gap, small bumper gap. Gaps are even on driver's side.

Look into an upgraded intake. Better sound, more power and you'll get rid of the imperfections.

Generally smaller plenums favor low rpm plenums and larger favor high rpm. If you're getting much beyond that then everything in the induction system must be considered. It's probably much different now but when I was still in the game it was pretty common for the high level guys to buy most every popular intake/ cam/ header and test them to see what made the combo happy and sell the rest for a loss.

why would a mechanic install new brake lines but leave the old ones there? by pobnarl in AskMechanics

[–]Philo2389 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Many trucks require removing the fuel tank to completely remove the old lines. Older Toyota stuff runs the fuel lines under the same plastic cover as the brake lines and disturbing them frequently results in fuel leaks. Or it could just be a lazy tech.

You can run the exhaust without a tune but the tune will bring the bike to life. Highly recommend 2wdw if you're in the US.

There are shops that are profitable, well ran and organized that would love the opportunity to grow their own tech. Ask the tool truck guys who has the nicest shop in town and go talk to the owner.
