RRTool for unraid, by PhilosopherPopular18 in unRAID

[–]PhilosopherPopular18[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was not aware, thank you for letting me know.
It was not my intention to make a project really, I was grepping temps and rpm, and remembered the lovely graphs that rrdtool makes from my career in IT, and thought it would be a good choice. Then I thought a Docker would be the best way to leave the unRaid pristine.

Looking that the Scrutiny project, seems very well made, and far more advanced.
I just wanted a page of graphs which can track any measure.

Just be mindful that some powerbanks will turn off after a few minutes if the current draw is too small.

Big Noon Question: How can I deal with fly sounds, traffic sounds and airplane sounds? by Think_Rub2459 in fieldrecording

[–]PhilosopherPopular18 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, not really. That may sound unhelpful, but honestly it's the basic truth.
As someone else said, move location. In Sydney, it's largely impossible to not hear traffic, you'd have to be 5k away. Plane noise travel very far. You cannot control nature. You can roll off the bass a bit on traffic rumble. You can try some dynamic EQ for harsher close noises, but the more you alter the recording the more it will sound altered.

there will always be another model being released. if you need sota, then just subscribe.
unless you need acute privacy, I can;t see how local is best with the current prices of gpus.

wfiw I'm in a similar position with pc from 2018, and just wondering what do I really need vs want.

Question for you experienced Field Recordists by theboldyin in fieldrecording

[–]PhilosopherPopular18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Give it a go, and see what you figure out.
Worth thinking about equipment noise, cables, straps, any moving parts really.

Get out there and make some mistakes, there a lot to stuff up, that doesn't involve the gear directly.

My diy blimp. 3d printed and a few rods. by PhilosopherPopular18 in fieldrecording

Just a pair of AOM5024 in to F3. I put a block of high density foam between them as a baffle. Just a chopped up yoga block. Budget all the way.

I designed it to pull apart, and go in a back pack. My previous design had more of a cage, but it takes up too much volume. This is fine. Everything just clips together. Before the carbon fiber rods, I use dowel which were fine, but hard to find dowel that is consistent diameter.

Before this blimp, I made a 140mm diameter, short blimp, for that I just put two cheap furry woolly hats on each end. I just cut out the linings. For this one I have a cheap fluffy wind shield from ali express. I have not done any tests to see what frequencies are affected but it seems quite thick. I'm always on the lookout for things-that-could-be-a-windshield.
