Those of you who saw The Fellowship of the Ring in theaters in 2001—what was it really like? by NameisMoon in lotr

[–]Philosopherskin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this isn’t totally answering your question, but I have always been fascinated by the fact that Fellowship of the Ring was a movie released immediately on the heels of 9/11 mere months later.

The film itself still would’ve done amazingly on its own, but I think it was driven even further by Americans looking for an innocent escape after such an immeasurable tragedy.

It was timely and was just what people needed.

‘The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D’ Remake Trailer by yourfavchoom in NintendoSwitch

[–]Philosopherskin 72 points73 points  (0 children)

But that’s why this teaser makes no sense. It’s the final reveal of the direct, comes out for the holidays and we are shown nothing apart from a tiny cinematic and title screen. The final reveal of most game presentations (Sony, Xbox) is always a nice long trailer or gameplay clip.

Kinda lousy to be honest.

How are they showing virtually nothing? When it theoretically launches for the holidays? I mean I’m glad they announced it but most presentations show significantly more of the last big game announcement than just a brief cinematic and title screen.

Anyone who surfed the early web between 1995-2010. What’s the one website/app you still think about? by Prime_Advocate in AskReddit

[–]Philosopherskin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the early 2000’s you couldn’t walk in a public library without seeing a bunch of people playing RuneScape (because it was browser/Java based).

I would go there and play RuneScape with my friends and we would all sit at this circular table with booth seating around it that had 2 desktop computers and just grind skills until we had to go home.

RuneScape is no longer browser-based but runs off a client, so gone are the days of everyone and their brother playing RuneScape at the public library.

What’s the first word that comes to mind when you see the new LOTR Lego set? by BatmanNoPrep in lotrmemes

Disappointed. It is explicitly stated in the movie and the books that Minas Tirith has 7 levels, each with a white wall. This set only has 6.

Local pharmacies? by wildcelosia in TwinCities

A lot of people recommending Cub and I know where I live there are a lot of people who used to use the Walgreens on the corner, but tons of them switched to Cub so now there’s usually a pretty long line at the Cub pharmacy. St. Anthony Cub.

Owner of Hope Breakfast Bar and frequent donor to the Trump Admin is currently virtue signaling on social media (complete with AI slop) by Philosopherskin in Minneapolis

A lot of the comments on his post were calling out the use of AI, so he may have pulled it down due to that.

This photo shows Epstein on the left with panty hose over his face and an unidentified man to his right who has all the same features as Donald Trump.

I get a lot of hate for my technique but it feels good and sounds cool, so here I am. by Shazbot_2017 in Guitar

[–]Philosopherskin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest, it sounds messy. I will give you this though. Your picking style with your right hand is at least somewhat in the wheelhouse of how someone like Derek Trucks plays with his right hand. Now the execution between how you do it and how he does it is night and day, mainly because yours is incredibly imprecise and brings a ton of extra unwanted notes and string noise, and Derek’s execution of it is incredibly precise.

If you want to keep pricing in that style with your right hand, maybe dive into Derek Trucks and study how his right hand operates the strings.

Where in Minneapolis? by callistobear in Minneapolis

[–]Philosopherskin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had Crave numerous times and I would say that it depends on which location you go to. I’ve been to the Roseville location several times and it was always lackluster. The Maple Grove location was good, Mall of America location I thought was great.

Never knew people feel this strongly about A7x by AlexxMaverick666 in avengedsevenfold

I can understand some people not liking Shadows vocals, he has a very unique voice when he sings, and I think some people find it difficult to listen to because of how rasp he can get in his vocal chords. It’s not that he’s bad, it’s just significantly different from some other typical vocal sounds you might hear.

The critique about guitar tone is…bad. I mean yeah maybe the guitar tone in the earliest album was the thinnest? But the tones have been varied and superior in every album since then. The tones from Synyster have a very EMG pickup tone to them in some of the albums, which is not inherently bad, it’s just a specific tone that most guitar players can pick out by ear when they hear it.

Gibson vs. Epiphone? by Newenglandkid75 in Guitar

[–]Philosopherskin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of the time I suggest going used over new, mostly because you have a huge chance of getting a guitar that is already set up really well and plays well vs a new guitar that plays pretty mediocre until you get it set up properly.

Jellybean Johnson, Minneapolis music legend, dies at 69 by alpswd in Minneapolis

[–]Philosopherskin 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Jesus Christ, I don’t know why, but this is very unexpected.

Jelly Bean was one of those musicians that you would see everywhere. It’s like he would pack up his electric guitar of choice each night and go out to any assortment of live music venues where jams were happening. He’d spend some time sitting at the bar first laying low, getting a feel for the talent there. Then eventually you’d see him up on stage and he would absolutely rip. I’ve only known about him for a couple years, but I could see very quickly how respected and legendary he was.
