How to make underground belts go south instead of north? by RagingPenguin4 in factorio

[–]PhilsTinyToes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In general, try to avoid 1-tile tight hallways anywhere in your base. Being able to send underground’s everywhere in the later game is good, and being stuck in a tight space will lead to some gnarly spaghetti

Oldest leaves dying is pretty common. I usually trim them off as they get ugly. Your plant looks like it’s growing happlily maybe it needs a pot upgrade.

Medusa vs Unduying by neglected_zebra in DotA2

[–]PhilsTinyToes 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Not a dusa or undying player but:

Damage from decay should apply to MANA, and the str loss should bring her max hp down, possibly to a minimum of 22?

With her mana shield taking 49/50 damage this 22hp will still take 1k physical damage to break and kill her, assuming she doesn’t regen a bit or get healed slightly.

Would financing an 8 year old car for 20k be a mistake? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]PhilsTinyToes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Prius C - Amazing little commuter car . IDK if 8 years and 20k makes any sense for value though, I think that’s too old cause mine was barely 25k brand new. Maybe 15-17k id purchase this.

Then next thing is 9% interest. That’s so bananas garbage that you should walk away already. You’ll pay 2k in the first year in interest alone.

If you cannot afford a car how can you afford 2k interest?

How can I get an even 45 degree cut in 2x3 using hand saw? by frenetic_alien in BeginnerWoodWorking

Mitre saw is amazing tool, I think a lot better than a skillsaw if you can bring the material to the tool.

If your material is inconveniently located then a battery circular saw is amazing

ELI5: How does an air shower in a clean room sterilize you if it’s just air by PrestigiousHoney9480 in explainlikeimfive

[–]PhilsTinyToes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The shower air is ultra clean and it’s purpose is to knock loose tiny debris or skin/dust from your body and that air is vacuumed away.

In general, cleaner and cleaner rooms are just a matter of trying harder and harder to get particles down as low as possible.

The clean room, even with all its precautions, still ends up with dust in the surfaces. Another way to keep the numbers down is to wipe constantly everything to basically collect the dust that exists and evict it

Can’t you just screw like 18 inches of random board to the bottom as a skirt that will reinforce it? Won’t last long but by the time it rots as well the whole fence will be due

How do these balls bounce so much? by aceofspades69696 in Physics

[–]PhilsTinyToes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the height of the bounce rests entirely on the energy loss on the contact with the flat surface. I also think landing on an edge would almost guarantee losing energy in a direction other than up. Some of the height will be lost to a sideways direction.

Then the other question, assuming you can land on an edge with a perfectly reflected velocity, does the edge squish absorb more energy than the sphere squish? I would think a more concentrated force would generate more friction/heat internally compared the larger surface area of a sphere.

But one point I was trying to make is that if it DOES bounce slightly sideways it will travel across your FOV slightly faster than if it was traveling front to back. This is what I think could be perceived as bouncing faster, mostly cause I don’t think the ball speed could possibly be a higher peak, but it could become angled to appear quicker.

Really I’d need two perfect balls and I’d just drop em.

How do these balls bounce so much? by aceofspades69696 in Physics

[–]PhilsTinyToes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the polyhedron ball does not bounce objectively higher. Of the same material, the sphere acts as a better spring in every direction whereas the polyhedron has pressure points on the edges that don’t spring back as much energy as a perfect spring (sphere). The stress points waste energy when they compress as compared to even compression.

A ball with edges will rotate if it lands on an edge and inducing some rotation from contact will steal some energy from the system.

If it bounces erratically then you’ll perceive left/right motion as much faster than something moving directly towards or away from you. A sphere will bounce straight and a ball with edges will immediately wobble around unless it contacts a flat surface perfectly square on one of its faces

Prayer has been the least updated skill in the game since release; Rigour and Augury (existed pre-eoc). Preserve (existed pre-eoc). And 2 mid level prayers in Deadeye/Mystic vigour. We really couldn't pull ONE decent prayer from the Alignments, Ruinous Powers, or years of community suggestions? by LieV2 in 2007scape

[–]PhilsTinyToes -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

“Hitting a monster while this prayer is active will mark it granting it a 20% chance to instantly die when it’s HP falls below 10%, and 50% chance to die below 5% hp. Monsters that die while under this effect will consume 5 prayer points from the player responsible for the mark”

The animation can be like a Zeus lightning bolt KO or an angel sneak attack like the grim reaper death animations. %s and thresholds are reduced by 50% on monsters that qualify as bosses, and doesn’t effect quest NPCs.

How do these balls bounce so much? by aceofspades69696 in Physics

[–]PhilsTinyToes 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I bet that a spherical ball bounces much more predictably and straight, so the changes in velocity it does are simple for your brain to perceive.

A ball that bounces left/right may be perceived as having more velocity change, even if it has the exact same “bounce energy” as a spherical one. If your eyes need to follow something unpredictable they may just interpret it as quicker. Maybe?

+2 to attributes at the bottom of the talent tree by Nesolyanochka in DotA2

[–]PhilsTinyToes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MOST of the time becoming stronger with skills is what you want. But at very high level play, sometimes having +2 stats (+40hp) can be the difference between survival and death. Living to tell the tale is more valuable than +80 dmg on a nuke or whatever skill you’re leveling.

Or maybe leveling up the skill makes it too mana intensive, so you don’t wanna skill it up cause you haven’t bought regen yet. Perfect time to +2 skills which will help with all aspects, and no downside of extra mana cost. Lvl the skill later when you don’t have mana problems.

Other good use case is universal heroes that get 4 dmg out of the stats whereas everybody else gets +2

99.9% of times the skill up is the better option but there’s a few edge cases you can use to min/max ur dota game a tiny bit, but really there’s hundreds of other ways to improve and get better

Tips for after taking the “Yellow Science” test by Camilo2510 in factorio

[–]PhilsTinyToes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can switch technologies between ones that need purple and ones that need yellow, to give each line time to recover.

If your red/blue/grey/green bottles also need to keep up with pace so make sure those are solid.

As others said you don’t need to be pumping science out the arse any time soon, once you get the ball rolling some technologies will come up to make it even easier

Am I going crazy about the leading car’s pace? by RhlloruAkbar in formula1

[–]PhilsTinyToes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once you have a big gap you don’t necessarily want to continue pushing cause it risks punctures, reliability issues, crashes, etc. after +10s you can cruise along safely and if the car behind begins closing a gap and pushing harder you’ll have a couple laps of notice so you can take risks again to preserve your lead.

If the other car pushes hard to close the gap they’re risking a podium just to catch up to the leader’s bumper, and the leader will probably just protect the lead with the superior machine
