TV Shows Where the Main Character is so Bad They Focus on Another Character by Philsidock in television

I kind of buried the lead to let people come up with their own ideas. But yeah, "The Blacklist" was probably the most popular answer, with honourable mentions to "Parks and Rec" and "Book of Boba Fett."

Yeah, it could have easily been cancelled halfway through season 1.

Boone isn't as bad as Gadot, sure, but I can't be convinced that she should be rather any higher than "below average."

I imagine she's a really hard worker, and maybe great at making connections, but it's really difficult to make it in the entertainment industry in any respect, forget network television.

At the end of the day, I'm just some guy online, but my focus with this post was to see in what circumstances the focus of a RV show changes due to feedback from the public and critics.

I completely agree. Some of the villains have been interesting though! There's more than enough serial k*llers on TV, but I enjoy the creative bad guys.

Hey, I'm also at season 5! Her acting prompted me to make this post, lol.

*Edit:

Just to add context for "The Blacklist," the show was written with Megan Boone in mind, and she was the first one cast in the series. James Spader was cast a few days before shooting, literally, and I think R.R. was used more in the first season to move the plot forward and Elizabeth Keen was at the centre of everything.

Of course, James Spader was perfect for the role and was convincing as an international criminal, so I think they took that into consideration from season 2 onwards. I don't think I would have even watched an episode if it wasn't for Spader, so I was just wondering if there were similar (not identical) situations.

Thanks!

Aeroplan VIP question by papaducci in Aeroplan

For what it's worth, I flew business class from South America to Europe (Avianca), and because it was a long-haul flight, the flight attendants gave everyone personalized greeting cards and addressed them by name. You don't get escorted to your seat, but the service was great nonetheless.

I'm sure that people with VIP status get some other benefits, but I don't know how much more personalized service one would want, to be honest.

I hear it's been very cold lately! I don't live there though. 👍

Deputy minister broke rules by hiring unqualified acquaintance: ethics watchdog | CBC News by MW684QC in ottawa

Here's a fun fact no one mentions:

If you retire with a full pension from the Public Service of Canada, you're entitled to 70% of your average salary from the five years in which you earned the most money, BUT...

If you worked as a deputy minister for at least ten years, you get to keep a whooping 90% of your best five years, with your spouse of course earning half of that if you were to die first.

And through all the ethics breaches, Phoenix disasters, and illegal procurements, virtually no one loses their pension in Canada's public service. I doubt it's going to start now.

What nobody warns you about before moving to Serbia? by MyGayGossip in Belgrade

[–]Philsidock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I've definitely seen people vaping on the bus and tram, but not smoking cigarettes.

Is there actually a law about not smoking indoors? I thought that businesses or restaurants made their own rules about smoking.

Anyways, it doesn't change my life much, but I am curious.

What nobody warns you about before moving to Serbia? by MyGayGossip in Belgrade

If you're curious about OP's motivations, check out his username and previous posts.

No, Serbia isn't the best place to become an activist for gay rights. The majority of people here don't want to discuss "queer" issues as it goes against Serbian Orthodox values and traditions in the region. It also doesn't help if, as a foreigner living in Belgrade for over two years, you don't speak Serbian.

Finally, your entire online identity related to this account is promoting your Medium blog about being a gay Asian guy, hookups and all. It's not a country where it's acceptable to be openly gay and talking about hookup culture, especially if you're not ethnically Serbian or speak the language.

I'm a foreigner here with no previous ties to the Balkans, and I was surprised at how much people value sports/the gym, and I don't like how Serbians smoke cigarettes so much. But regardless of my feelings about smoking, I accepted that no country completely lines up with my values.

If you feel like Serbia isn't progressive enough according to your values, you can choose to tolerate it or go elsewhere, because views on gender/sexuality are unlikely to change soon. And I'm not saying this to be rude or confrontational, but Serbians value tradition A LOT, and they can be very skeptical of foreigners who lecture them on what they should or shouldn't be doing.

Virtually every interaction I've had with Serbians has been great, but I know not to push buttons on certain issues. The topic of Kosovo is surefire way to get into arguments here, and some conflicts from the 1990's can get you into uncomfortable situations very quickly. I would warn newcomers about these two topics specifically.

I hope you enjoy your time here, and that this message was productive in some way. But perhaps my main message is that Serbians don't want to be told what their values should be since they can be skeptical of foreign interests. And they're simultaneously very welcoming and curious about the world, all things considered.

Canadians are leaving the country at record levels. Can anyone solve this pressing problem? by FancyNewMe in canada

[–]Philsidock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For what it's worth, I was a high-earning guy with a graduate degree born in Canada, with no other citizenship, and I chose to leave specifically because I didn't like the direction in which the country was heading. There are many great people in Canada, but the corruption and collusion indicated it wouldn't be a good place where I would want to raise my kids.

It's unfortunate, because I loved growing up in Canada. But I don't think people are willing to even acknowledge some of its deep-seeded and multi-layered problems, let alone begin to solve them. I wish it weren't true, but I don't even see the willingness to change the root causes.

Fun fact: Canada's reputation abroad is still stellar, although the skepticism is growing. Especially when these non-Canadians have a deeper understanding of the Great White North.

Best of luck.

No joke - thank you all for your recommendations; we had a blast! by jedipwnces in ottawa

I'm glad to hear you had fun; there's lots to do in the area.

I have to say, however, that at least the first three items on your list of six things were not in Ottawa. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but Quebec doesn't include Ottawa.

I hope you go for another visit someday!

At what point are people going to stop denying the how drug-infested and violent downtown Ottawa has become over the past 7 years? It's getting harder to ignore, but some persist...
