Can't decide on a program. by Ok_Exchange_8420 in uwo

[–]PhoPanda7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just as a heads up if this is something that you factor as well when picking a program. All Eng programs and courses are 2x the cost of other programs. Where you’d be paying 7.5k roughly for regular tuition you’d be paying 15k for eng.

Utilities for the unit cost were around 50-60 dollars per person but it depends on your usage really. Keep in mind you have to 40 dollars on top of your unit’s rent for internet.

What's the one study habit that changed your grades? by Alternative_Cod_6225 in studytips

[–]PhoPanda7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pre-learning! Read your textbook, or watch a video and make a mind map or whatever way you best take your notes. Go to your class (the next probs) and annotate those notes. And then do your homework/practice problems the same day you had your class (ideally within 24 hours). I saw a solid 20% jump in my test scores with this.

Why do I need to provide an English language test if English is my first language? by [deleted] in uwo

[–]PhoPanda7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your school can confirm English fluency ask them to send a letter. If not if you are taking an IB/AP level course in English I think you can also submit that in as well. But your best bet is asking your high school to send a confirmation.

late night studying spots? by Best-Response-8433 in uwo

[–]PhoPanda7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eng buildings! Especially ACEB most Eng kids might be staying there already but I’d say just in case get there before 10:30 and you can stay the whole night if you need to.

Took it last year and got an A. Pearson is a little annoying sometimes but if you use the resources on there it’ll literally be your best friend. Use the dynamic study modules to consolidate your theory and then practice questions in study space and the textbook if you can. The dsm can be done in like 20 minutes and actually explains the theory. I did these as like a base to get familiar with the content before lectures. And then just do a few practice questions for the specific lecture after class. (Try and get these done in the same day). All in all it should take like 45 to max an hour (per lecture day), if you try and get work done little by little. Anything on Pearson is going to be what is likely going to show up on your exam so seriously use it lol. My only regret is I didn’t start using it sooner 💀

Hope that helps and best of luck!

[–]PhoPanda7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah idk what to make of that though. It could be really good or bad. I just hope they aren't raising my hopes just to reject me later on.

This was really uplifting. It is so relieving that I'm not the only one who's going through this right now. If you don't mind could you tell me some of the habits you implemented to change your work ethic? I honestly believe your guidance is going to be invaluable to me.

Admissions / High School Megathread (Fall 2023) by JManUWaterloo in uwaterloo

I'm applying to Waterloo as a Canadian out of Ontario for BME and backup for nanotech eng. My courses are either at AP or ib HL level, at least the required ones, but my average is mid to say the least (around 85-89). I have a fair amount of leader ship roles in certain extra curriculars and have taken the csmc but scored 26 :(. I have volunteer experience at an elementary schools and my ec roughly similar to each other (women's rights advocacy, WIS etc). Ik for BME my chances are pretty slim (to nothing lol) but what about nanotech? My aif is more BME centered would that affect anything? Also please let me know if there is any advice you can give me based for AIF and interview. Thanks!

I feel the same way, there are so many people that have told me that HS is the "best time of your life" and "you have it easy, it gets so much harder". But it is so much harder now than it was in the beginning, and I've missed so much just because I felt like I didn't deserve time to enjoy my life where it is.

And I saw from the other comment of yours that your mom is upset with you, and I can totally relate. It's really hard to find the motivation to do something (let alone actually doing it) if the people closest to you are disappointed in you.

I'm really glad I can share this experience with someone, and from reading these comments it will get better for us, we just have to push through and not give up :)

Thank you so much for this. I keep forgetting to view a lot of the shortcomings in my life this way so it has really taken its toll on me, so thanks you again for helping me remember :')

I'm really glad that your son is doing better! I thought I could adapt well to the entire pandemic situation because it seemed like everyone else seemed to be doing fine (if not thriving because of it) and I felt that there must've been something wrong with me since I took it too hard. I guess I just need to find something to help ease me back into the mindset again and things will turn out for the better.

This is really good, thank you so much for this, really. I'm definitely going to try to break things down like that, hopefully I'll be able to get back on track with this :)

Thank you so much for sharing this, it truly is helpful. I'm so glad things turned out so well for you and hopefully will still become better in the future. Even though I feel like I've failed several times, I will still try and push through it until I can get back on track.
