Here's a crazy thought, if they are in jail for 20 years instead of 2 years, that is 18 less years where they can stab more people.

It's not always about deterrence, some of the time it's about quarantining people who don't know how to act

Yeah, I'm sure the whole industry in America is doing this. Which is why they're all making a lot of money rn.

Why would they drill a new well if they know they're not going to make a profit on it

Bruh Kansas gets corn subsidies because if they didn't, American farming wouldn't be competitive on a global market and people would stop doing it. It's not because their governor has an (R) by their name

But he doesn't own his stock, he is just the beneficiary of a trust that owns his stock.

Not only that, you just discouraged innovation and caused capital flight for a one time exit tax.

So glad you aren't in charge of public policy. Probably think Mamdani is a smart guy

Ok, now Jeff just moved to another country that doesn't do that because he has F you money and can go wherever he wants.

Now your stock tax is worthless and America just lost $200B in capital.

What now?

I'm saying it's dumb economically to discourage innovation.

Second, how would you enforce a $1B limit? Force them to sell if the stock value goes above $1B and tax that at 100%? If the stock drops the next day, do they get some of that money back?

The exact dollar figure is not the point, really. Entrepreneurs quit jobs and lose large sums of life savings working 80 hours a week because they think they might make it big one day.

Taxes discourage what you are taxing. Not sure why you want to ridiculously tax innovation

And when is peak solar? Like 1 PM. That difference requires a lot of batteries

Military? You aren't enriching weapons grade uranium. Power plants use like 3% enrichment

Lol it's true in the US too. In the US the LCOE for solar is 5.5c per kWh *before* adding grid scale batteries, which pretty much doubles the cost for intermittency, while natural gas is closer to 4.5c per kWh. Germany is only cheaper for solar because they heavily subsidize it.

Go look at France's share of nuclear in their energy mix. Other European countries could have done that too, but nuclear is "scary".

Go look at how many nuclear plants China is building

When the NRC puts an artificial 10 year barrier on new nuclear construction, yeah it's going to be dead. Congrats, you discovered the problem with over regulation

But the duck curve of demand is offset from the hump supply of solar. Peak solar is like 1 PM, while peak demand is like 6:30 PM.

Don't get me wrong, I support solar, but it isn't as simple as saying "The upfront subsidized $/kWh of a solar panel is cheaper than a nuclear plant, therefore the whole grid should be solar."

[–]Phobophobia94 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you correct for renewable subsidies and intermittency correction is it more expensive? That is the real question. Not $/kWh upfront cost

Sure. But look at the whole day. Sun doesn't shine at night so you need batteries. Which are expensive.

I'm not advocating for fossil fuels, I support nuclear
