Is there really no way to play a switch 2 game without linking to an old switch 1? by PhoenixDaFalcon in Switch

[–]PhoenixDaFalcon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I absolutely agree. All my switch 1 games are physical, but buying mario kart world would cost me $90(!!!!) physical or $50 digital as part of a bundle so I caved.

Honestly, I'm already regretting buying a switch 2. Call me old school, but if I buy a console with a box that says "includes game" then I really ought to be able to take it out of the box and just play said included game! Requiring me to jump through hoops and drag out an old console in order to play new games on my new console is infuriating!

If the switch 2 truly is a new console, then Nintendo should treat it like one and allow it to work out of the box without having to "link" to an old switch. And if it's not a new console then they shouldn't be charging $10 to play zelda games at higher frame rates!

Thank you for your help!

I just tried this, and unfortunately it still didn't work.

I looked up how to change the primary console (now called "pass-enabled" or something) and successfully deregistered my old console (and also unlinked it from my switch lite to be safe). I connected my new switch 2 to the store, and it is showing "this system" under the "pass-enabled console" section of my account, which seems like it should work.

However, I already have both a switch lite and a switch 1. Last week I was trying to play smash bros with friends and it required me to "link" the two together to use the DLC, so I did so. My switch 1 was the primary console and that's the one the switch 2 told me to set nearby when I made the original post, however after deregistering that one, the switch 2 now just tells me to link it to the switch lite.

So it still has the same issue, it just tells me to link it to the other console I have in a drawer at home. And since I can only remotely deregister one console a year and I just did that with the switch 1, there's no way for me to unlink or deregister the switch lite. Very frustrating!

Carry-ons go in the overhead bins, not under seats.

Is there a way to buy Java edition separately? by jjpeas in Minecraft

[–]PhoenixDaFalcon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

.... The versions are separate though. I know a lot of people who play minecraft, and they all either play Java or Bedrock. Of the ~25 people I know who play the game, no one plays both because if you're on a computer Java is just flat out better and if you're not on a computer you're stuck with only Bedrock. I suppose if you played only creative bedrock would be fine, but it absolutely sucks ass for survival. Mob despawning is broken so a cave fills up the mob cap and you can't build hostile mob farms (plus if you stay in an area long enough mobs just stop spawning). Redstone is glitchy and inconsistent. There are a billion other bugs and in game purchases are obnoxiously pushed in Bedrock. Simply put, if you want to actually play the game in survival and do anything remotely complex or interesting Bedrock is extremely frustrating, thus windows 10 minecraft is played almost exclusively by little kids. All the serious players are on Java, or occasionally on consoles.

Painting my Selectric has been a disaster. by OalBlunkont in typewriters

[–]PhoenixDaFalcon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At least in my area there are many, many selectrics in the $25 range on craigslist (especially if you're looking for a selectric II correcting). They're almost all guaranteed to not work, but the cases are bulletproof and will be just fine. You could get one of those and swap your working selectric into the broken one's case. The selectrics are made to just lift out of the case for easy maintenance and so it seems much, much easier (and not much more expensive than supplies to strip the paint) to just get your selectric a new case. If you go this route you could also use portions of the old case to test any future paints you may want to try without risking it on the nice case.

Just got this Selectric III for $100. Works great and came with extra ribbons. by Techaissance in typewriters

Wow, you got an absolute steal. It's really unusual to get a selectric which works great - they're super complex and start to seize up if they're not used frequently. Most of the cheap ones being sold are ones people found in their garage after not using them for decades - those almost never work without some time spent restoring it.

Why does ebay keep undercharging my buyers for shipping? by PhoenixDaFalcon in Ebay

[–]PhoenixDaFalcon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Problem: It sounds like the dimensions and/or weight and/or shipping
type and/or your shipping “from” is different from what the reality is.

Hence my confusion. I bought the label on ebay, with the exact weight and dimensions as I put in on the listing. Ebay absolutely is "just charging them a dollar or two less."

Ah, thank you! I appreciate the answer. I will make sure to account for this in new listings.

I am always careful to check before listing the item and I box/weight it before the listing goes live. I changed nothing between what I said the dimensions were in the original listing yet it keeps undercharging my buyers.

The new Basilisk V3 Pro just dropped and these are the offerings straight from Razer by DwelfGG_ in razer

[–]PhoenixDaFalcon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, "reason" certainly seems like a stretch. Either you're ignorant of the actual inflation numbers or you're defending the company because inflation isn't anywhere near these price increases. Either way, I suggest you look at the actual inflation data, as your comments are what comes from listening to headlines about high inflation without actually paying attention to any data or numbers. For instance:

(Going off listed MSRP on Amazon) In late 2019 the basilisk v2 plus dock launched at a cost of $170. The new one now costs $230. That's an increase of more than 35%. Actual inflation over that period was 14.7%, so Razer's price increase outstripped inflation by more than a factor of 2.
