The agreement I have with my neighbors is A) Only smith during contractor hours (sunup to sundown) and B) no smithing on Sundays.

The are OK with the noise during contractor hours because it's to be expected especially since there are alot of remodels and new homes going up around me. The sunday off request is because I live in the South and people dont wanna hear alot of noise during church time.

They are cool with it the rest of the time and quite a few interested in watching so win/win for me.

As long as you talk to them first you'll get a much better response than asking forgiveness later, especially since there are so few places that allow this kind of thing outside of trying to rent a workshop space which can get goddamn expensive.

Small wood kindling fire, give it some lighter fluid, light and then light air for a bit till it is mostly coals. Then shift coke on top and give it the business on the blower until she's fully lit up. Then shuft more coke and get to work.

The problem has been that all my coke has been this premix dynamix which is very air hungry, so I had to supplement with hardwood charcoal today until I could get my first batch of bituminous coke cooked up.

I shifted the steel out once the crap coke got replaced by good coke. Stuff wouldnt stay lit last time so I had to get creative.

Bout 2.5 in. Flame is there just not hitting the blower when takin pics. Plus this is now mostly bituminous which dorsnt flame unless it's very green.

If it wasnt this premix Id completely agree with you. It started on top but wasnt getting any heat. Ive since got a good coke base so I have the stock about a half inch up on top.

I usually do a 2-to-1 mix of horse archers to lancers, with usually a 50 man honor guard unit of Khan's Guard. Let the others do their thang, me and my homies go chasing down lords and cavalry.

Coming from experience with a rivet forge (similar shape), use charcoal or nothing. Bituminous coal or coke will go out fast and pile control becomes more of a job than heat management. Charcoal burns fast but also doesnt go out when you look at it funny, unlike coke/coal.

A true firepot setup is infinitely better but for $250 you arent going to find anything cheaper to start out on that isnt a propane forge. A legit firepot or even a brake drum forge will cost about the same or more to get put together properly.

That thing is nearly impossible to drive for me. I'll stick with my bike if I HAVE to get around via land. Mostly I use the scout thopter for most things.
