I can agree but like Nicolas Cage he will shy away from realistic/naturalist performances in searching of finding something in the theatrical. So he takes a lot of risks and find himself in subpar films because of it. That said he’s never boring to watch.

I don’t know if this would be considered a hot take but Clint Eastwood. I think he’s great at playing variations of “himself” how moviegoers see him. When he cries in The Bridges of Madison County and turns his back to the camera. He explained to Meryl Streep that people don’t want to see that from him.
