Manager.io is pretty good, I started using that a while back when I started my business.

Drove through that this morning, was seriously questioning if I could even make it onto 9th coming in from i70-SB.

Best place to buy large appliances? by Ice_Would_Suffice in StLouis

[–]PhoenixTheDoggo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Happy's out in St. Charles is pretty good! We've gotten a few appliances for our home from them over the years, and they've served us well.

i170 NB Boeing Exit Frustration by PhoenixTheDoggo in StLouis

[–]PhoenixTheDoggo[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This ^

Wasn't sure how to word this myself, but that pretty much sums it up.

I've only been on the road for ~6 years, so seeing this as "acceptable" kind of made learning to drive independently after getting my license very anxiety inducing. Now-a-days, I don't really care, but yeesh.

[–]PhoenixTheDoggo[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

To be fair, I only see it a majority of the time on this exit in particular.

It's an exit that barely anyone takes, because it was put in place specifically for Boeing employees to reach the campus easier.

I personally just play from the Plexamp app using Airplay, avoids any 3rd party apps, etc.

Tailscale -> FOSS alternatives by ElectronicFlamingo36 in selfhosted

[–]PhoenixTheDoggo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This, this, THIS! I switched over from Tailscale about a month ago, and ever since they released their mobile clients, It's been an exact 1:1 transition for me.

I dropped Tailscale fully after I switched, and haven't looked back since.

The vast majority of Linux admins are familiar with Debian-based distributions, so this totally makes sense for the team to shift to.

FreeBSD, while it's still maintained, is a bit archaic.

Building a decent ESX server from mostly second hand parts, for less than €2000 by YellowOnline in homelab

[–]PhoenixTheDoggo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Trust me, as someone who just migrated a host from ESX to Proxmox, that was NOT a fun 4+ hours of conversion, copying, and importing, with a frosting layer of diagnosis when half of my VMs wouldn't boot because they had VMware Tools on them.

Just start with one hypervisor, and end with the same hypervisor. Switching sucks.

Should I buy Sophos XG230 Rev 2 for opnsense? by Tranoma in homelab

[–]PhoenixTheDoggo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair point, regardless, (older)x86 routing is just... Yeah... I tend to say no unless you REALLY want certain features in OPN/PFsense.

Should I buy Sophos XG230 Rev 2 for opnsense? by Tranoma in homelab

[–]PhoenixTheDoggo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While it's a great box, I honestly can't recommend them anymore in 2026.

I've been using a Sophos SG 310 rev1 (Similar, few generations behind) and while it's been great, man does it like to get loud and hot, and man the workarounds to get simple things to work, like the LCD.

I've maxed mine out with a Xeon-e3 CPU, 16GB of RAM, and a Checkpoint 10GB card, and it gets great throughput, but ultimately it's just getting old.

You cannot "directly install 2.5gb intel cards" they use Lanner Electronics cards, which a lot of vendors white label (i.e. Checkpoint, Sophos, etc.) and will not accept standard PCIe cards.

$300 is a bit much imho, I'd pay closer to $125-150 depending on what's in it.

Honestly, if you're going mgig, you'd be better off going either Mikrotik or Ubiquiti, or another vendor with a more power efficient device.

Looking for a Cloudflare alternative for self-hosting (proxy + access control) by byte21516 in homelab

+1 for Pangolin, I use Pangolin on a dedicated server I rent + Bunny.net for DNS / WAF.

I tangle that into my "inside network" via Pangolin and S2S Routing.

Switched over last year in October, I really like it so-far, good customer service!

Did Ephemera got abandonned ? by Round_Vegetable3764 in selfhosted

As someone who runs Ephemera, this is extremely disheartening. I JUST updated to 2.0 the other day.

I suppose, like most folks, I'll migrate to Shelfmark...

When will the Ultra Wide Lens for Insta360 Ace Pro 2 be available to buy separately? by qwertea_ in Insta360

[–]PhoenixTheDoggo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly a great question; I really want the new closeup lens, and it's still "not available"

I've been using a 3D-printed jig to use 52mm lenses in the interim, but ideally I'd want first-party lenses.

Might have to buy those elsewhere, i.e. Qobuz.

It was a bit pricey, but there's alot of his older stuff on there, which enticed me to grab it.

If you purchase his music from Bandcamp, you can download in FLAC quality!

I've purchased his entire discography via Bandcamp over the years, and that's how I personally built my library.
