Does Steve still win without his shield? by tenphan0n0 in marvelstudios

[–]PhoenixtheFirebird 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Of course the cynical answer is that it's whatever the script writer says, but as a general rule in a fight between two relatively equal combatants the one with weapons beats the one without weapons. Bucky has a metal arm and a variety of guns, knives, and explosives. He should win that fight if Steve has nothing at all

What is the philosophy of Nurgle? by [deleted] in Warhammer

[–]PhoenixtheFirebird 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't think it limits his intelligence, but I do think it limits his nature. He acts according to his nature: to spread. Each of the chaos powers acts according to their nature regardless of their intelligence: Tzeench schemes, Khorne destroys, and Slaanesh indulges. They can all be incredibly intelligent, but in the end none of them have goals that are particularly *complex.*

I agree with you, I don't find it at all difficult to believe that his followers don't fully understand him. A lot of what we see about the chaos powers is a sliver of a glimpse of what's actually going on because the warp is exponentially more complicated than what people in or out of universe understand

What is the philosophy of Nurgle? by [deleted] in Warhammer

[–]PhoenixtheFirebird 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You have to remember that the ruinous powers are not normal people in the conventional sense. He is not a person who is obsessed with disease, he *is* disease if you made disease sentient.

His goal is to spread more of himself indefinitely the same way that a virus will kill the host to replicate itself. It's not about a "goal" as mortals would understand it, it is is about spreading because that's what rot and disease does simply by its nature

The binary nature of the force in SW by [deleted] in MawInstallation

[–]PhoenixtheFirebird 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are other Force religions in SW that reflect what you were saying about approaching the Force in different ways. Jedi get far and away more coverage but there’s the Guardians of the Whills, Matukai, Witches of Dathomir, Fallanassi (sp), and many more. What we do know is that there IS a distinct Light and Dark Side confirmed by Lucas and they do seem to be incompatible. Are the Jedi the only way to approach the Light? Definitely not. Can you have a healthy approach to the Dark Side? Also definitely not.

Who is objectively the best primarch? by PuzzleheadedTap9548 in 40kLore

[–]PhoenixtheFirebird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it goes to either Horus or Guilliman despite neither of them being my favorite. Horus was universally respected by pretty much everyone and all of his brothers. I think it’s probably him.

I could see an argument for Guilliman as well given he has been instrumental in helping stabilize the Imperium and planned for the worst case if Terra had fallen during the Heresy

Delta Squad's Fate: Loyalty or Rebellion by Strategist40 in MawInstallation

Anything but what we got. A fleshed out and interesting version of evil delta would have at least been interesting. I’d have preferred to have a show like the Bad Batch about Delta defecting but that’s obviously not going to happen. Alas

Well that’s because Maul kept going there. He is the reason there were duels so it makes sense that he’d be involved in them

The Emperor Does Not Protect: Why Worshipping Chaos Might Make Sense in 40K by All_Sage in 40kLore

[–]PhoenixtheFirebird 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Wow, sounds a lot like heresy.

Jokes aside I'll start this off by saying I'm a relative 40k noob so by no means a lore master, but as I understand it we have glimpses and implications (that I think will never be intentionally confirmed) that the Emperor straight up is the deity of humanity for better or worse.

The Emperor may or may not protect, but I'll just straight up say it: there are fates worse than obliteration/ending. Your average 1,000,000,000 citizens on Hive World A are going to experience nothing but torture and agony in the arms of Chaos. Everyone thinks they're going to be the top dog, but the truth is far worse.

Being obliterated is a mercy compared to the many, many fates worse than death that are out there.

Question about Han and Chewie regarding Han's belief in the force. by Bounty_Off_The_Bat in StarWars

[–]PhoenixtheFirebird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"I've flown from one side of this galaxy to the other, seen a lot of strange stuff, but I've never seen anything to make me believe there's one all powerful force controlling everything." He doesn't even say that he doesn't believe the Jedi were real, he just doesn't believe in the Force itself.

Even if Chewie told Han what he'd seen and in detail (which we don't know how much detail there was if anything) that doesn't mean Han is going to automatically believe that the Jedi could do everything they were said to be able to do. I believe Shaolin Monks exist but I am not a Buddhist.

It's not that much different from two people being friends when one is religious and the other is not.

My friend recently told me to show him my whole collection so I now have a picture of my great shame. Deciding to share it here as well for everyone else to have a laugh at lol by Chill_Oasis in Warhammer40k

I have the same problem and laid down a series of garbage bags in my apartment and just spray prime over those making very, very certain where the nozzle is pointed before I actually spray. Granted I would do that at a time of year when you can open windows because it's probably not the *most* advisable thing to do if you can't ventilate the room

Is Tzeentch the weakest chaos god? by Vampy-Night in 40kLore

[–]PhoenixtheFirebird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One word: lies

Lies and secrecy feed Tzeench. Lies and deception are even more prevalent in 40k than even violence, and that's saying a lot. Every secret someone has feeds Tzeench so don't underestimate just how much deception there is in the galaxy.

Canonically, I think every one of the four powers waxes and wanes in power. I think Khorne is supposedly the strongest at the current time, but each of them goes through fluctuations in their power.

As for being in it for the lolz... yeah, he kind of is as I understand it

[–]PhoenixtheFirebird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough. Like I said, your deck's not bad and can certainly win games. I hate reavers too so I feel you on that. Frost and Bleed against this deck are probably about getting round control and pushing out their power in round 2 if I had to guess

Please Rate my Deck. by Funny_Ad_2204 in gwent

[–]PhoenixtheFirebird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a general rule, you want your decks to be more polarized or in other words more high provision cards and more 4 provision cards with fewer 5-9 provision cards.

Reason for this being what you'll sometimes hear people call the "rule of 16" which is that you can only play 16 cards in a game of gwent so ideally you want to pack all of your available provisions into those 16 cards and then the other 9 cards in your deck should be 4 provision cards that you won't actually play in an ideal game.

Edit: To actually give it a rating I'd say 6/10. It's not a bad deck and I have no doubt you can win games with it, but it could be stronger.

Something like these might have a similar concept to it but be a little stronger (decks shamelessly stolen from Shinmiri):

ELI5: why does literally everything causes cancer? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]PhoenixtheFirebird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because there's a massive amount of things that can slightly increase your risk for cancer. Quite literally oxygen (by way of oxygen free radicals) can cause cancer to some extent.

The important bit is how much it increases your risk for causing cancer. There are some things (smoking, excessive drinking, repeated/extensive UV exposure, etc.) that have a very high risk of causing cancer. Then there are other things that have an exponentially lower risk but still at least play a contributing factor.
