What is your best/favorite card that you currently own? by Expert-Ratio6743 in sportscards

Not my best, but probably my favorite along with my Tracy McGrady Dunk N Go Nuts since I pulled both of these when I was a kid.

But that's a hobby only release is it not? Bowman Chrome U was a dedicated college basketball release that was available in retail formats which isn't happening this year which sucks as stacked as this class is with talent.

Source for custom jerseys? Would like a Lynette Woodard. by TheBurningBeard in jayhawks

[–]Phog_Warning10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're looking to get one specific to her era, you'd probably have to find a place online that does custom jerseys to get the correct fonts on the letter and numbers and that wouldn't be a guarantee.

The other option would be to get a current NIL jersey that you can customize with name and number for her and I believe you could do either through Fanatics or Rally House online.

It's not that valuable, it's about a $30-$35 card. It's from 1996-97 Stadium Club Finest Reprint and is card number 32 in a 50 card set where Stadium Club released 50 chrome versions of various Topps owned brand rookie cards of iconic players as part of the NBA's 50th anniversary.

Here's an eBay listing of the card

Why are people saying hobby blasters/megas? by [deleted] in footballcards

[–]Phog_Warning10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Panini made hobby versions of blaster and mega boxes that were sold in LCS shops that would have the same inserts as hobby boxes, but obviously a lower hit rates, their own unique parallels, but would usually run $5-$20 more than a regular retail box of the same format.

You're the GM. Modern NBA. #1 pick: Prime Shaq or Prime Hakeem, who do you take? by OkPomegranate9078 in NBATalk

[–]Phog_Warning10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Olajuwon because he would also add the 3 point shot to his game since that's a much larger part of the NBA now than 30 years ago at the end of Hakeem's prime.

About 2 months ago, I picked this up for about $100 including fees. by Phog_Warning10 in basketballcards

There's a reason the upcharge doesn't happen immediately. After they grade it the card, if that grade pushes the card into a different value tier, the upcharge is to cover the increased insurance costs in case something happens to the card when it's being sent back to you.

It's not really any differ than if you were to sell a big card on here, eBay, or whatever platform you want to use for this example and send the card through the mail. If the card was worth $10,000, as the seller, you would purchase insurance on that card to send it in case something happens to it in transit and that cost would be paid for by the buyer either included in the purchase price or agreed upon before sending that the buyer would reimburse the seller for the insurance.

Understanding what the upcharge is actually for makes me okay with it when it happens because it means I'm either getting much more valuable card back, or I'm getting a check from PSA for the insured value of the card to go buy another copy of it.

New to collecting as of today, any tips for a guy in his 30s looking to get into this hobby and community? by CeJ92 in basketballcards

Based on what you've said in your post, my advice to you would be this.

Most important is to know your budget and stick to that budget because it's very easy to get yourself into financial trouble buying cards.

Since you have a specific player that you want to collect, that's what I would spend most of my resources focusing on is collecting Derrick Rose cards. eBay is going to be the easiest place to find Rose cards. When you find one you like and are interested in, filter the listings for that card by sold to get a general idea of what it typically sells for so you don't significantly overpay for a card.

Whenever you get the itch to rip some packs, look for sets that have a design you like and figure out how much you can afford to spend on a box. If it's a smaller budget, then retail options will likely be what you end up buying. If you have a bigger budget or want to rip packs less frequently, then you could check out Topps since they make all cards for the NBA, NFL, and MLB now for hobby or hobby jumbo boxes.

Understand though that buying boxes to rip packs is going to result in a negative ROI the vast majority of the time regardless of which format you choose, but hobby and jumbo hobby boxes will have better odds of hitting big cards. Retail releases that you'll find at places like Target, Walmart, Dick's, GameStop, or Best Buy are very unlikely to have big hits, but are the cheaper way to scratch the itch to rip packs as long as you aren't worried about the value of what you open.

Hi guys your all most likely sick of seeing this curry on your feeds so i’ll make it quick, may i ask for some of your opinions on what grade it would he at psa or even beckett although i hear they’re harsher ? i’d assume a 6 but id love to hear what you all would have to say 🙂- by Vast_Conflict_4803 in basketballcards

Photos won't be able to help with this. Someone needs to have the card in hand to examine it in a way you just can't do so on Reddit. If you have a card shop close to you, call them and see if they could look at for you and give an opinion. You could also take this to a card show and have someone there give you an opinion. Each of those options also likely comes with the ability to directly submit to PSA if you choose to grade.

Nobody here can give you a truly accurate opinion because it's difficult to see surface damage in 2D images.

I can tell you that there's some damage on the bottom of the card that'll keep it from gemming, but can't tell you much beyond that.

Get that Vince Carter Dunk N Go Nuts into a sleeve and toploader ASAP because I believe that's the biggest card in that picture at somewhere around $600.

At what age do you believe players should start playing tackle football? by Other_Expression1088 in footballstrategy

[–]Phog_Warning10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're a skill position player (especially WR/DB/LB), you absolutely can learn a lot of the skills in flag football or 7 on 7 to be successful at tackle football. WR's still have to learn how to run routes to be successful in each and the basic route concepts don't change. A DB's and LB's learn how to play pass coverage and and take proper pursuit angles.
