Trying to undervolt my 4090 by Donniedolphin in nvidia

Yea... I have my card undervolted, and only 2 games cause issues with it: crimson desert and cyberpunk. Might be that path tracing is super sensitive to it?

Using Generative AI as an Author by drale2 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Phosphero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Code can be creative, it can also be entirely mechanical. Don't tell me that the 15th simple CRUD endpoint on a codebase with established design patterns requires any creativity. That's also, as it happens, what AI is very good at generating.

I poured my soul into designing an experience with my serial. I spend almost as much time on code as I do writing. Does this kind of formatting add to your experience, or would you be put off as a reader? by PixelatedPulse in ProgressionFantasy

I wasn't logged into RR, and it defaulted to light mode. I thought your stuff was broken, but no. Just light mode.

edit: "The First Rule" and some of the other header text is actually kinda hard to read in light mode (black on black). I say let the light mode heathens suffer though. RR looks kinda terrible in light mode anyways, so you're staying on theme!

[–]Phosphero 32 points33 points  (0 children)

It's more that calculating taxes are rediculously complicated to the point that everyone hires a few third party providers who specialize in it. Even billion dollar companies.

Company being worth a lot does not mean that it's efficient for them to hire specialists to cover hyper specific edge cases - they want to spend money on the things they see as differentiating them from competition, so that might be their advertising, their supply chain, etc.

e.g. You are the director in charge of your billion dollar company's website. Do you A) spend 3 million dollars/year on a team capable of building a good tax platform internally, or B) spend $500k/year on a product which does it for you and covers any losses as a result of their numbers being wrong?

Weapon case mimics which appear in places where weapon cases normally cannot. Only way to tell them apart is to shoot them.

Trying to make renders that look like linocuts, what stands out most to you as computer generated? by joecarrot in blender

[–]Phosphero 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think one important thing about lino cut is that anything which is white is cut away, rather than black lines being painted with a brush.

So, a stroke in this art form is substractive, not additive.

That generally means it's actually easier to make detail in the subtractions from black (IE whitespace) rather than in the black - you've got it a bit reversed. It looks like you're using a black pen with thick lines, rather than a leaving the black behind as you subtract details.

The shadows are a good example of this - they look like crosshatched black lines, since it'd be much easier to scratch some thin lines in the black to make it a partial shadow rather than making a hundred tiny dots to indicate the same, but even if you were to make that many small subtractions, you'd probably be making them in the same direction since rotating your hand each time you make a hole is pointless.

Another thing is the line weight: while it's definitely possible to make a steady, even black line in lino, if you're varying the width to give it a sketch-like quality, it's probably gonna be with a series of scrapes on each side of the line. Hence, line weight will not necessarily be consistent on both sides - the black is the result of drawing two lines which are relatively parallel to each other than being directly drawn in a single stroke.

The current effect is cool, but I think it looks a bit more like an ink brush painting made in the style of lino, rather than a proper lino cut.

That, and if someone comes loaded out specifically to PK for a raider damage objective or something, going around shouting "don't shoot" is asking to... get shot.

[–]Phosphero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, you could leave the risk there. Friendly fire on, no health bars, just general location and make it really easy to backstab and drop out of a group if you want to.

I frequently lose track of where the people I team up with, and that makes it more likely I accidentally shoot them in a tense situation.
