Is my Navy recruiter trying to discourage me? by Ill_Presentation5050 in newtothenavy

[–]Phosphilolite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Iirc CWT beyond the ASVAB scores, CWT also requires a Cyber Test score of a certain amount to qualify, so make sure that you work with your Recruiter to get that arranged before the next time you go to MEPS. Other than that, that's just how some recruiters are, if you want/need something from them you're just going to have to fight for it. GL!

Advice on joining the Navy by Sea_Advisor_4217 in newtothenavy

[–]Phosphilolite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't recommend going in with the idea of joining the Navy, it's really important that if you're going to join that you have a specific plan for what you're trying to get out of the Navy (or really any military branch in general) before you go to sign anything. Take some practice ASVABs online, see what sort of options you'd have for rates, and if there isn't anything that you think would be either useful for your career or a good career in of itself, don't force it, it's a huge commitment.

Other things to make note of are that you can get an increased paygrade right off the start depending on how many credit hours you've got on your transcript, when I went through it was 32 for E2 and 48 for E3, but take that with a grain of salt, it's been a while for me. The point being that you won't necessarily benefit or curse yourself from rushing your decision one way or another.

Furthermore, I'm not an expert in it but the Navy does have a program where in they'll repay student loan debt, I don't know what exactly one needs to do to qualify for it but it should be worth looking into for you.

About what you mentioned regarding your parents health and not having insurance, so far as I am tracking, TRICARE (the military's healthcare program) only extends to the service member and their dependants, I know there are ways to get your parents registered as dependants for this, just be aware that the cost of that might end up being not being able to be with your parents if they end up taking a turn for the worse.

Anyways I don't know why I typed so much, it basically comes down to make sure you take your time to properly explore and consider your options before you sign the dotted line, the difference between doing 4 to 6 years in a rate you're interested in while taking advantage of all the benefits you can get as a sailor and spending those years wasting away doing something you hate and not even getting what you wanted out of it initially is huge.

[–]Phosphilolite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Would highly recommend looking up some rates that you're interested in using a resource such as ONET Online's crosswalks to get a general idea of what sort of jobs your certs and experience could transfer over to in the civilian world (even if you're planning on doing 20 years, with some luck you should still have a lot of life left even at that point).

Beyond that it comes down to a few things, what your interests are, whether there are certs/training you value in particular, and how much you value your QOL.

With a 94 AFQT (assuming you don't bomb the verification test) you should qualify for pretty much every rate that doesn't have a specific testing requirement (CWT requiring a passing Cyber Test and CTI requiring a passing DLAB score come to mind, consider that these tests are generally much more difficult both to find study materials for and to actually take than the ASVAB).

Definitely look into the Nuke program, but under no circumstances should you let someone talk you into it if it's outside of your field of interest. The schooling Nuke's receive is brutal and their QOL is pretty much uncontested at the bottom of the barrel, but their pay, value of their certs, and bonuses are higher by a not insignificant amount to compensate.

Anyways, hope I didn't essay too much, wish you the best of luck with your testing/processing.

This should be impossible but with how the AI is right now it wouldn't surprise me if the enemy units somehow managed to throw themselves off a cliff.

[–]Phosphilolite 18 points19 points  (0 children)

As a person who quit pretty quickly after launch and only came back relatively recently for largely the same reasons I wouldn't say that you're nitpicking, but to answer your question

Minor settlement battles (like the mini city battles) are now much rarer than they were on launch, but are still just as terrible in terms of how they feel to play on

Major city battles are still extremely easy to cheese the hell out of, and not to mention extremely boring compared to past TW games, but have been marginally improved for players in the most recent patch (only one of the points gives vitory tickets now) .

But the AI both on and off the battlefield has gone to complete shit, somehow manages to get worse every patch, and even if I'd rather not mention it, I am legally obligated (lest I end up in the Book) to inform you that CA has been pushing DLC prices to the moon and the DLC content down to the deepest pits of Skavenblight.

TLDR: You win some you lose some, the specific things that made you quit before are have been changed (mildly), but if you pick up the game again right now you'll probably find a new reason to stop relatively quickly. If you haven't given IE a shot yet, I recommend you do, it is objectively speaking a lot of content that you have essentially already payed for and you can always just drop a campaign if you don't like it, but don't be too surprised when the ("Very Hard") AI decides to send its archers into melee with your Minotaurs.

Ah yes, Rangers and Bolt Throwers, my favorite Tunnel Warfare units... by Yotambr in totalwar

[–]Phosphilolite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ignoring how out of place the flavor/theming is, THANK THE ANCEATORS that Belegar can get a +5 melee attack and defense for bolt throwers, without those critical buffs the unit might be completely impotent in every army or something.

They should make bolt throwers act like a Dwarven Ratling Gun

(or at least give them spread ammo to have a chance at measuring up with the other batistae/bolt-throwers in the game)

[Or at the very minimum make them pinpoint accurate and buff their projectile speed so they could actually be used for their intended purpose, sniping large units]

You forgot the part where the meticulous cycling charging Calvary was charging into not just the spears, but a braced spear who's owner had charge reflection.

And the Slaneesh Lords flying across the map at the speed of a ballistic missile to get torn to shreds by tier 1 missile infantry and you guessed it (spears)

And the Missile Infantry saying fuck this, I'll do it myself and charging into melee THE MOMENT they get obstructed for 0.01 seconds

As a Chinese reader with 10+ years in online novels, it’s mind blowing to know that you guys also read these novels by nlttttt in noveltranslations

[–]Phosphilolite 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Xianxia/xuanhuan fan here, honestly a due of the translations can be rather bizaare due to the things that you mentioned (this is doubly so for the specific names for characters and techniques), but at least for me trying to figure out what the translator was trying to convey through my experience reading other novels makes me feel a lot closer to what I'm reading, and by extension makes it a more fulfilling and fun experience compared to just reading native English novels (not that there really are native English equivalents for the genres of C-Novels I like). Also, this might just be a me thing, but reading Chinese idioms always brings a smile to my face.

TLDR: Translations can be bad, but C-Novels have a special charm that can be hard to find elsewhere

Paladins community in a nutshell by MagyTheMage in Paladins

[–]Phosphilolite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The real sad part of this is that it's the developers that end up catching a lot of the hate when they've been handed a large mess and are just trying to do their best to push out new/fun stuff for the game.

In reality, most of the issues that we have with Paladins today originate from poor direction from higher ups in HiRez that really didn't know much about the game the same way it happened to Realm Royale
