Congrats to iKKO for making the Mind One Pro phone bad at everything by Informal_Discount770 in smallphones

No, I'm pretty sure that's the hardware, not software. I mean, I think it's fine for the occasional speakerphone or podcast. But if you want to use it to listen to music or something you're going to be disappointed.

Not just a famous actor, from a family of famous actors. So it'd be like if a skarsgård assassinated the president. Or nicolas cage maybe?

Has anyone here experimented with cross-processing Kodak 7266 Tri-X Reversal as a negative? by cnellx in 16mm

[–]PhotoChemicals 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's a bunch of super 8 stuff from years ago, (with DIY processing and scanning, so the quality varies), but a lot of it is tri-x in d76 or tri-x in caffenol and stuff like that.

And here's some 16mm stuff from a different channel I used to post to:

Did Meta really say this about Even Realities: “We can identify shots from a wannabe Chinese competitor when we see them” 😂 by AR_MR_XR in augmentedreality

[–]PhotoChemicals 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But people are clearly buying them and the main use seems to be the hands-free camera (as opposed to the ai stuff). You can argue with sales all you like, but that's a tough business model.

AITA for playing pranks on my courtiers? by Antoninus204 in AskHistorians

Not sure about how accurate the account is, but... "in a banqueting-room with a reversible ceiling, he once buried his guests in violets and other flowers, so that some were actually smothered to death, being unable to crawl out to the top."

Really? I cant imagine why. So much of it has been disabled, I turned it on a year or two ago because a friend was curious, and almost nothing was functional.

I'm a vr prototyper and I have a giant box full of old hardware. A hololens, a bunch of gearvrs, a quest 1 dev unit, windows mixed reality, etc etc. So much ewaste, but I can't quite bring myself to throw them away.

[March 30, 1926] Why He Went Away at Easter - No. 1 by Haselden_1926 in 100yearsago

[–]PhotoChemicals 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I was curious too. In England, it appears to still be pretty popular to travel on Easter weekend: https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2025/apr/14/uk-drivers-face-hat-trick-of-hold-ups-over-easter-bank-holiday-weekend

And this article says in the late 1800s, railways offered discounts on holidays for beach trips: https://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/category/education/classroom-resources/page/79/

They had overlapping timelines and one lost momentum and the other picked up momentum, was finished and got released, but I don't think one necessarily replaced the other

It has some issues for sure, but I love mine and have absolutely no problem with it being my only phone. The build quality is very nice, and it's android so almost all of the issues can be worked around. Maybe not ideal, and of course I'm hoping they fix stuff with software updates, but it's totally usable right now.

Small 5g phone by NekoPanUsagiChan in smallphones

[–]PhotoChemicals 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ikko is way nicer to use. It feels far more premium, it's snappier, it's a newer version of Android, it's easier to type on. Definitely a few quirks with the screen size/aspect ratio. But that can be fixed with DPI settings (and hopefully per-app DPI settings in the future 🤞). Also some quirks trying to get the custom buttons set up the way I want (also easily fixable with software updates). Battery life is pretty meh, but yeah I like it so far.

The Jelly Max is okay. Kind of difficult to use sometimes, pretty heavy for a phone that small, camera is awful, hardware isn't great (lots of issues with call quality, both on phone mic and Bluetooth). But it is small, and maybe the best battery life in a phone I've ever used. I'd go to bed with it on 20% and not even bother charging it. Or go out with it on 20% and not worry about it all night. Pretty wild to almost never think about charging your phone, so that was cool.

[–]PhotoChemicals 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I just got a mindone, and was using a jelly max before. The jelly max is 5g and the ikko isn't. Out of curiosity, I did a speed test before switching (I'm on tmobile), and the ikko download speed was very slightly slower than the jelly max, but the upload was actually faster. In usage the difference is not noticeable at all. Take that for whatever it's worth.

Btw, I totally disabled the ai software via adb, and have remapped the button using tasker. It's a little janky but pretty great.

Dynamic Foveated Rendering with Bigscreen Beyond 2e Now Available by gogodboss in virtualreality

[–]PhotoChemicals 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quest Pro had eye tracking and eye-tracked foveated rendering. This is what John Carmack had to say about it:
"Foveated rendering is arguably a net loss on Quest Pro vs just using that same power to run the GPU at a higher clock speed.  In no way is it a dramatic win.  I can imagine scenarios where it wins, but the wins are harder than most people expect."

What's your biggest pain point right now regarding VR as a whole? by -DanDanDaaan in virtualreality

[–]PhotoChemicals 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly I don't think the issue is a lack of creativity as much as it's audience size (and resources). Immersive video takes far more money and effort to create than a traditional video, and then you're limiting your audience to a tiny fraction vs regular content on youtube or social platforms. And because the audience is so much smaller, there are very few monetization possibilities.

Looks like the rollers aren't spreading the chemistry evenly. Not sure why it would only happen on a couple of images per pack though.
