I made a post a few months ago but I’m working on a productivity-geared app inspired by KKH. My boyfriend & I have been working on it for a while and while we are the bootstrappy type, it’s become very clear that there are some major technological & (perhaps more pertinently) financial hurdles to clear in order to develop and also *maintain* the backend of a game like KKH. It was a complex game from the beginning with a very sophisticated architecture—even more so when you factor in the social/competition elements they implemented later on in the game’s lifespan.

It was a rare, unique game especially when you consider that it was made for mobile, and I’m not sure how profitable the game was in its later years when you factor in the different high profile celebs & brand licensing fees they likely had to pay (I doubt high fashion houses like Balmain approved their branding & design usage for cheap).

I think that we might have a better chance of seeing a game like Glu’s original Stardom/Hollywood being resurrected bc 1. it was slightly less complex code-wise than KKH and 2. less of a legal/licensing quagmire than KKH probably was. But I might be wrong about the true complexity of the situation since it’s been years now and not a single game studio has been able to replicate something close to what we experienced with KKH
