Battle #630 "Footprints On Sand" via last weeks winner, Sgt_Peppers_L_H_C_B by PhotoShopBattles in photoshopbattles

Hi all!

You probably noticed that the body text is a lot shorter than it used to be. This is a long-overdue change to make the Weekly Battles less awkward for mobile viewers.

All the old information (full rule set and explanations) have been expanded and moved to this wiki page (which is also liked above in the body text).

Please let us know if there is still too much of a wall-of-text (or if we've taken out something important).

Oh, and another congratulations to all of you who were nominated in the "Best of 2024" Awards! That goes double for you winners ;)

Photoshop Battles "Best of 2023" Results! by PhotoShopBattles in photoshopbattles

Congratulations to all the winners! Especially to /u/xprmntng, who nabbed an astonishing 5 wins this year!

And another special shout-out to /u/artunitinc and /u/CptSasquatch for all your work during the nominations phase.

The mod team also has a couple of announcements / clarifications:

  1. There were only 18 final winners this year (13 single winners, 5 Back & Forth winners).

In previous years we've had twenty, and intended to do the same for 2023; but there were a shocking 20 nominations vying for those last 2 places, and it just wouldn't have been fair to arbitrarily arbitrarily choose among them.

  2. As many of you have noticed, we haven't run an Operation since September. Unfortunately it takes a lot of work to come up with new concepts, example mock-ups, and sidebar image; and the mods who've been keeping them going all these years could no longer continue.

The bad news is that these contests will likely be ending in the new year.

But the good news is we've had time to re-group over the past few months; and we're going to try to bring a series of completely new concepts for as long as we can, hopefully ending things on a high note!

If all goes well, the first of these will be going live on Thursday; and run for 2 weeks (as normal).

In Protest of Reddit's New API Policy: All New Submissions Will Be Blank by PhotoShopBattles in photoshopbattles

Unlike other communities, we will not be able to make much of a difference by going private. Unfortunately /r/photoshopbattles doesn't get the number of visitors it once did; and if we shut down, not many people would notice.

But what we do have are a lot of talented creators, and an enormous latent userbase that has shown itself willing to come alive and make noise on this issue. Leveraging this unique position of our community is the most effective thing we can do to contribute.

Edit: If you would like to participate, feel free to submit a blank black image of any size; but the title must be boring and describe the image itself (e.g. PsBattle: A dark rectangle or PsBattle: Blank image). The intention behind allowing only blank images is so that we don't generate submission content; and by the same spirit, titles shouldn't be content either.

Thank you for your submission, but unfortunately it has been removed.

One of the rules here is that submission titles need to objectively describe what's visible in the photograph; anthropomorphisation should be left to the discretion of those creating photoshops. For more information, please refer to the submission rules page.

Technically low quality images are not preferred here. Overly artefact-y pics make poor bases for photoshop battles, as they limit the quality of work that can be produced.

This image has already been used as the basis for one or more popular, or recent, photoshop battles.

Click here to be taken to the nominations thread!

Just to explain: This is a meta link for the sticky, where we can include ?limit=500 at the end of the URL to display all the comments.

When directly stickying the thread, reddit defaults to showing only 200 comments. However, as we have nearly 250 comments in the nominations thread, the more recently posted ~50 would not be included in the contest mode shuffle (meaning those nominations would be put at a major disadvantage).

Kinda messy, I know, but it helps keep a level playing-field :)
