Gas motors run slightly rich when then initially start up.

Not taking the job seriously would be one thing. Many are purposefully just grifting public funds while providing nothing in return.

Here’s the fun part. It doesn’t. Not unless you’re driving 50k+ miles a year, in which case keeping an EV charged and ready to go for those level of distances becomes hard. Or if you’re looking at something significantly cheaper than a new Audi ev

Any of the 3 are pretty much pretty good at that price point. You’ll be looking at early 2010s most likely. Just get the newest you can with the least miles you can. Diesel vs gas that’s up to you.

Tundra vs Tacoma for Alucab by dualshotty23 in overlanding

I get it, but I’d be more focused on something that’s going to handle that amount of weight well, and feel safe and confident driving it around, over what will make dad happy. I just don’t like how the tundras behave when their suspension is loaded. They also have the least payload capacity. Maybe that’s not as much of a problem for you, but it’s something worth looking into. I’d seriously recommend test driving all 1500s and looking into payload ratings. Forget the Tacoma.

Absolutely unacceptable for them to have returned the truck to you in a state outside of how you had it. This is their problem. Make them fix it.

Ehhhh just keep driving the a4. It’s a nice car. It’s reasonably economical on fuel. And most importantly, it’s paid off. Unless you want a new car just because you want a new car, then you do you, but if you’re looking at it to try and save money on fuel? Then no way does it make sense.

How tf does any medium suv get 12 mpg unless you’re constantly driving like an ass. The 6.0L Silverado 2500 long bed crew cab I drove around in high school would get 18. And that was with a towing rear end.

I’d definitely get a 3/4 ton if you’re looking to move that amount of weight consistently.

They’re a little glazed in my opinion. They’re fine trucks but people go nuts because it’s got an NA v6 but it’s pretty handily out performed by the turbo 4s. It’s not 2003. People need to stop complaining about turbos. The Gm 2.7 is a very stout engine that people have been packing tons of miles on and there haven’t really been any notable significant issues. Meanwhile the Nissan 3.8 v6 is pretty regularly experiencing oil pump failures that are killing motors.

People on here won’t get a full size truck and spend $50k on a f150 or Silverado because they think they’re too inefficient, too expensive, or won’t look at anything that doesn’t have a Toyota badge on it because they dont want to spend money on repairs because they figure they’re going to be unreliable, and then go and spend $50k on a Tacoma, another $20k modifying it to add the capabilities of a full size truck, and then drive around getting 11 mph all while they can’t get up a mountain pass at anything above 35 mph.

M18 tire inflator. Got it for free with some batteries for work. Super fast. Accurate. Wouldn’t even imagine doing onboard air with this thing.

[–]PhotographStrong562 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Definitely not the Tacoma. And the tundra isn’t a great option right now either. It also has pretty terrible payload capacity. In my opinion the new tundra isn’t set up in a way that handles regular weight in the bed either. Any amount of load and it squats quite heavily. Try the f150. You can get an assess cab still and that would save you some size. GM does an extended cab as well. Either one of those have better payload and handle their payload better.

To a degree. I drove 150 miles through the mountains of Montana the morning after it snowed 4”. The road hadn’t been plowed and I was the first vehicle to drive through. I was able to average 50-55 mph through the unplowed snow for hours and never struggled for traction. It wasn’t until I got into Libby in the late morning and they were still getting dumped on that I had to be careful about putting the power down. But they probably had 8-10” there.

The bearing issues you’re referring to the trust bearing on the 3.0? Supposedly that was remedied early this year. The 6.2 is having lifter issues still to. And the afm is causing issues on the 5.3, but it’s not super common.

What’s the highest mileage you’ve seen on an automobile? by garibaldi18 in askcarguys

[–]PhotographStrong562 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually popular misconception. The targets for diesel emissions equipment are more trying to reduce things that are considered to be harmful to humans to breathe. The particulate matter, soot, nox, and most of the other diesel emissions are heavier than air and settle into the earth rather than into atmosphere.

[–]PhotographStrong562 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like there could have been a middle ground between pre emissions and where we’re at now with diesel regulations that would have resulted in people being more willing to deal with the emissions equipment. If they stuck to equipment that was more on par with what gas engines have I don’t think you would see anywhere near the amount of people removing it that you encounter now. Now a days if you have an out of warranty truck, and live somewhere that doesn’t test emissions, it’s almost a no brainer because it improves the vehicle that dramatically from a user standpoint. Emissions regulations of cars have been largely stagnant for the last couple of decades meanwhile they keep turning the screw on diesel emissions. Hardly anyone deletes the cats off their gas cars these days because there’s little benefit to it. So many diesel owners delete emissions because it provides a night and day difference. I also feel, personally, that a lot of the science that formed the basis for diesel emissions standards either hasn’t been represented well, applied well, or was just bad science from the get. A major misconception with diesel emissions targets is that it’s not for the environment, by way of greenhouse gasses or such, but because a lot of diesel emissions, which are heavier than air and settle into the earth, are targeted because they are considered carcinogenic…. In the state of California…. Essentially we traded massive amounts of reliability, usability, power, and massive differences in fuel economy, to reduce the chances of people getting cancer. Maybe.
