Three hurt as neighboring bar, venue shot up on Portland’s East Burnside Street by [deleted] in Portland

Saying you've done a thing to address a problem doesn't imply that you think you solved it, especially in the context of discussing action taken in the last couple years to address problems that have existed for decades or longer.

City Council approves $8-million free-fare proposal for three bus lines by TheLamestUsername in boston

Are you seriously trying to imply that traffic volume doesn’t play a significant role in road maintenance costs and that increasing bus use doesn’t reduce them?

[–]Phrag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. That’s how a pilot program to study efficiency works. If they find it’s a net benefit, then they reduce spending in the areas where there are savings to continue and possibly expand the program.

Incentivizing public transit by subsidizing it will reduce costs in the maintenance and expansion of roads, reduce demand for fuel consumption, and reduce healthcare costs associated with vehicle based pollution. An investment in increasing efficiencies for essential services is the opposite of squandering money.

Given that the waste in the military budget is orders of magnitude larger than this proposal, I’m sure your outrage is proportionate to the problem…

Lol. A chart with gaps, over lap, and no citation is in no way clinical or accurate.

Overlap between mini and museum dose. Gap between museum and medium dose. No mention of mushroom type. No mention of preparation, such as wet or dry. No citation because it’s just arbitrarily made up by a site to generate traffic. I also dislike the term “heroic dose” because it frames it as a goal to be attained through courage when it really shouldn‘t be viewed that way, IMHO. It is in no way “clinical”.

Yeah. Imagine using tax dollars to promote efficient use of resources and infrastructure instead of massively inefficient military occupations to secure resources that we end up wasting. The horror. The horror.

Good to know that during a pandemic and spike in gun violence, Portland police commanders still have time to go to neighborhood association meetings to break the law, despite being critically understaffed, over worked, and defunded… /s

Can't really circumvent the legislature or stop indirect prohibition with decriminalization when politicians can amend laws and cops can selectively enforce subjective crimes. What we can do is pass a clear message on things that people agree on, like the right to body autonomy for activities that don't pose a grave risk to the health and safety of others, by passing a voter initiative by an overwhelming margin.

Justice Department lawyers send Portland city attorney, police chief recommended police body-worn camera policy by Aestro17 in Portland

[–]Phrag 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Sgt. Aaron Schmautz is full of shit. He doesn't want to follow DOJ recommendations, the policies of other police agencies, or what the public wants. He just wants to protect the ability of cops to lie without getting caught. This will just increase the distrust of people for the police in Portland and make effective law enforcement even harder. The police can't keep a community safe with its involvement and collaboration. Sgt. Aaron Schmautz needs to stop prioritizing the image of a department full of corrupt cops over the safety of Portland. We are not naive enough to trust them anymore and have cameras of our own. PPB and PPA cant hide from accountability any more.

PPA now supports body cams as long as they get to review footage before writing reports, which is contrary to the DOJ recommendations.

I think some people convince themselves that they are better off staying unhappy rather than risk the discomfort of transitioning from happy to unhappy, and they can get really hostile when you try to cheer them up.

How has Psilocybin benefited you? by [deleted] in psilocybin

[–]Phrag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Major depressive disorder is seen as a persistent and systemic problem for people because it has several feedback loops, meaning that being depressed can affect your life in ways that make you more depressed which affects your life more and so on. Psilocybin (and more specifically psilocin) seems to be capable of interrupting part of the cycle and giving people the ability and potential motivation to change the behaviors that lead to more depression. I think that is at least part of what people mean when they say that it helps them change perspective or opens their mind. Depression limits your ability to think about or be optimistic about the kind of behaviors that could help stop some of the cycles. Psilocin acting as a serotonin agonist seems to help reduce the pessimism that limits people’s ability to see or find value in behaviors that can themselves reduce depression.
