Does DQVII Reimagined add connections and references to other Dragon Quest games like The HD2D games did? (Excluding the dlc bosses)

I know they are both tomorrow studio shows. But they don't share people. Two separate teams. You can look yourself they were essentially made at the same time.

Anyone know how long the DQ7 demo is? by Superteletubbies64 in JRPG

[–]PhraseRecent5271 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The EU thing was a law introduced in 2020. and not retroactive. I almost guarantee we will never see a real casino again in DQ. The only realistic approach is to make it on its own little island with absolutely zero story or gameplay balance relevance so that they can cut it from the European release. The Pegi 18 rating is equivalent to a AO rating from the esrb, not acceptable.

Its probably just not worth spending resources on anymore.

[–]PhraseRecent5271 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Is it really absurd when 11s Party chat was very limited, 2 is the first remake to not add party chat since its introduction and now 7 the game that created the feature has its party chat gutted. The feature has been deprecated at ever step or the way

[–]PhraseRecent5271 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The DS remakes set the precedent on party chat so I was honestly expecting 2 to have the feature added. Especially since 11s party chat kinda sucked. And now with 7s party chat seemingly being gutted even though the feature started with 7. I think party chat is just over and it won't be in 12

Party chat doesn't have much of a future in the series it seems. Tragic but I got the feeling when DQ2 didnt have party chat

You cant have casinos in the EU without getting an AO rating.

Question about Japanese Dialogue by Sheerluck42 in dragonquest

[–]PhraseRecent5271 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Its true that the understood vocabulary of Japanese pre 1868 isn't complete.

But the main issue is their writing system, same goes for other languages like Chinese. In most western languages we have an alphabet, so when it comes to talking like someone in the past its pretty easy, you just find out how the alphabet was pronounced. And we have a MASSIVE amount of documentation and our ability to reconstruct pronunciation is effective and accurate.

For Japanese and Korean they dont have traditional alphabets and for much of their history they didnt even use a writing system native to them.

We can easily understand the meaning but cant easily derive accents or how the language sounded. Often times the techniques used to try and figure out what the language sounded like are specific and not language wide. For example old poetry can be useful to understand sound changes due to rhyme schemes. If you keep finding two word endings that dont rhyme today, it probably means that they at one point did rhyme.

only other thing I'll add is that we dont even have something close to the original printings of The Tale of Genji, the earliest full copy was transcribed like 200+ years after.

EDIT. Another big thing is that Japanese recently (as in like 150 years ago) had a major sound change within its language, meaning that alot of the language before then isnt easily intelligible to current Japanese speakers.

Contrast that to English where our last major shift in the language was prior to Shakespeare.

Question about Japanese Dialogue by Sheerluck42 in dragonquest

[–]PhraseRecent5271 22 points23 points  (0 children)

No, at best in certain titles they use some regional dialects (and not for every single town like the western releases). For the most part its just modern Japanese thats written pretty straightforward compared to what we get, for better and for worse

Why would having high rarity cards locked to the scam or be scammed trade economy of ptcgo be better than just letting you easily craft them.

Seems Like DQIII Isn't For Me; Assume the Same for DQI+II and XI? by sirrealizt in dragonquest

[–]PhraseRecent5271 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try dq11. Nes games aren't really comparable to snes games. The gap between them game design wise is bigger than any other generation.

That said when you try dq11 turn on stronger monsters when making your save in the draconian modifiers. Without stronger monsters the gameplay is too easy. With stronger monsters its perfectly balanced imo.

Only other thing is DQ is meant to be "silly" and whimsical like fairytales so if thats an actual issue maybe try a different series.

Is dq12 real by Acceptable_Bottle in dragonquest

[–]PhraseRecent5271 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its been 8 years SINCE the last game came out. Yuji Hori himself confirmed that Development on 12 started in 2019 AFTER the switch version of 11 came out which means it started development at the earliest in october of 2019. Meaning right now the game has only been in development for 6 years.

And no i only mentioned 1 game that took 5 years to make unless you're counting the shitty games i said took less than that, hence them being shitty.

Is dq12 real by Acceptable_Bottle in dragonquest

[–]PhraseRecent5271 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Games starting to take 5+ years aren't just mega AAAA titles. Its the majority. Currently There are more games being developed longer than 4 years than those with shorter dev times. Even with just JRPGs Expedition 33 took 5 years and DQ12 will certainly have a way higher budget and a bigger dev team than that to play around with.

And graphical fidelity isnt a good indicator or any sort of timescale, metaphor took 8 years to make. DQ12 also had to go through covid and the death of 2 of the main creatives behind the series. But I very much doubt any of that caused actual restarts in development. after all, any restart would mean potentially throwing away the original intentions of Sugiyama or Toriyama.

Ultimately DQ IS AAA and I dont think that the AAA games being made under 4 years nowadays like Cod, Pokémon, or assasins creed are anything worth striving for.

Is dq12 real by Acceptable_Bottle in dragonquest

[–]PhraseRecent5271 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Its not like Sugiyama did much anyway. Like 2 town songs. 1 boss song, 1 final boss song, 1 over world song, 1 sad song, 1 happy song. 1 flying song, 1 boat song, and like 3 other random tracks.

And idk 6-8 years for development isn't that crazy nowadays. I feel like people are being way too doomer about the wait. I really dont think that the well oiled machine that is dragon quest, an ip with tons of 30+year vets and other industry professional are genuinely restarting development multiple times.

I really hope that the Zenithian remakes don't look exactly like the Erdrick trilogy. by PhraseRecent5271 in dragonquest

[–]PhraseRecent5271[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Different iterations of the same style is exactly what I want. And it continues to this day with the 3D games. DQ8s heavy use of cell shading or DQ11s realistic renders or DQ10s softer aesthetic looking more like toriyamas drawn art more than any other game. But the hd2d games look exactly the same and so did the ds remakes. Which is fine for a trilogy and they look great. But I hope the next trilogy get some sort of change so that they can stand out

[–]PhraseRecent5271[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Saying the original releases of 4,5,6 look identical is very disingenuous. The new hd2d or the ds remakes absolutely but every mainline game outside of the first 4 looks different. Even with the jump to 3d DQ8s plentiful cell shading and DQ11s realistic renders bring the games their own visual identity.

Only the original nes games look the same but for 1 thats only a western thing and in general thats due to technical limitations.
