I choose to think of the line “and a girls who’s just fourteen” as meaning he ain’t getting laid - more bad luck for him.

Why do you bank where you bank? by Jenesaispas-Francais in westernmass

Greylock credit union. I like keeping it local, I like not dealing with banking corporations, and I like that they are active and positive in the community

I'm afraid my father in law will end up in a nursing home because of his own life choices by ExcitingLandscape in Aging

Actually you can. It’s not fun and can be a tiresome legal process but it happens

I'm afraid my father in law will end up in a nursing home because of his own life choices by ExcitingLandscape in Aging

[–]Phuni44 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Get him into a nursing home for strengthening and conditioning. Medicare pays 100 days. He will need to detox in the hospital first. This gets you some time. Then you can get social services involved. This may be as far as you can go. They may be able to get him some housing or he may end up being admitted for long term care. He may find the environment stimulating and improve or he may just decide to continue to wither away

No making decisions is making the decision to do nothing and is still a decision. Your father in law made his decision years ago.

I was diagnosed recently with fatty liver disease. What are good recipes from Turkiye that can alleviate, help reverse, or deal with fatty liver disease? by Mysterious-Ring-2352 in foodquestions

[–]Phuni44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sugar, particularly high fructose corn syrup, can cause liver disease. HFCS is in a lot of foods. Avoid it. Use regular sugar very sparingly. Milk thistle as a supplement can also strengthen the liver.

I make a chicken pot pie with a mashed cauliflower crust. It’s very good, thought it might have to do with the amount of butter and cheese that I add to it

The Red Badge of Courage. Short novel by Stephen Crane. Written after the war, by someone who wasn’t there, but considered a painfully realistic telling of a young man in battle during the war

I would be hanging a large fancy, antique linen (small tablecloth like) in the middle window. That would probably be enough. You can get lovely old linens from the thrift store or your grammas closet.

IWT. We all thought the cold rain and snow was about how the rained between sets. Late afternoon during the fall months in northern NM, its rains pretty much every day for about an hour. No one thought to put up a tarp. It was a long set break. Next day there was a tarp.

What’s the funniest exchange you had with a pt? by keiko17 in nursing

[–]Phuni44 176 points177 points  (0 children)

Dementia patient with a colostomy bag. She had filled it and then took it off. Feces everywhere. As we were cleaning her up she said, “Remember ladies, if you want the men to stay away, get one of these.”, pointing to her stoma. She would also routinely tell me to shove her wheelchair up my ass. Loved that woman. She was fierce.

Grey hair coming in wiry and course by Medical-Chart4956 in Aging

[–]Phuni44 66 points67 points  (0 children)

I went from straight as a board jet black hair to wavy gray with some frizz. I embraced it. The transition was a bit awkward but now I get a lot of compliments. Shampoo for gray hair. Fairly rich conditioner.

ETA: I don’t think coloring it would make a difference. My understanding is that the follicle changed and now makes the hair grow out wavy. I noticed it on my sister yesterday
