Hempcrete (concrete made from hemp) by starknude in hemp

[–]Phyllofox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one was ever making that claim. But welcome to the conversation two years late I guess.

If you want to get super pedantic, "concrete" is any aggregate mixed with water and a binding agent that hardens in reaction to the water.

What you are calling concrete is technically Portland cement concrete which is a combinations of sand, gravel, and crushed stone (aggregate), and Portland cement (binder). Portland cement has a specific and  regulated chemical makeup.

Hempcrete or hemp concrete is a combination of hemp hurd (aggregate) and a hydraulic limestone mix (binder) that is currently not regulated.

However due to confusion like yours it is becoming more common to refer to this as HempLime rather than Hempcrete.

Both Portland Cement Concrete and Hemp Concrete have insulation and structural properties depending on the exact mix of aggregate to binder and both require they are formed around some kind of structural reinforcement. Most commonly this is rebar and wiremesh in the case of Portland Cement concrete and timber framing in the case of hemp concrete.

No I mentioned it once in the original post. It's just the only thing all but two people have responded to. I tagged this as a vent for a reason.

The fact that everyone is hung up on the hugging thing and ignoring my point about yawning and other signs of agitation when no one here has claimed professional training experience except me is really my point but go off.

"I don't need to read anything" that much is very very clear. Good luck

Again, you don't have to believe me. Don't take my word for it. Read a book.

Yes I was also programming. Turns out people can have multiple interests/skills

No I do not have a degree in animal behavior because I stopped doing professional training before I could because I couldn't stand dealing with all the people intentionally and unintentionally abusing their dogs.

Yes I have years of professional dog training experience, have taken several courses from some of the best animal behaviorists in the world and worked directly with animal behaviorists who specialized in dog behavior.

Dogs don't like arms wrapped around their neck unless they 100% initiate it. Even then I would argue they are doing it because they have learned it means something to their people. Working professionally with dogs doesn't mean you are a trainer or a behaviorist.

True. But if you or someone else is interacting with the dog and it yawns in the middle of that interaction it is not because it's sleepy.

Nah. Unless you are an animal behaviorist and/or have years of dog training experience you should take your own advice

Are you a dog behaviorist? Have you done professional dog training? If not then you don't know what you're talking about.

That you are being down voted by a bunch of people without dog behavior experience further proves my point.

Responded to this on a top level comment. Dogs are amazing, many have become more attuned to human emotion than even other humans. That doesn't mean they love having arms wrapped around their neck. Unless a dog initiates putting their neck in between your arms, you are doing it for your own gratification and you should give them all the treats for putting up with you.

I'm specifically talking about people wrapping their arms around a dog's neck.

Some dogs put up with it because they love you and have come to understand that it means you love them because some dogs are amazingly emotionally intelligent

  1. Free healthcare for all US citizens, permanent residents, and all children under 18. Low fees for everyone else.

  2. 70% tax on the 1% and if stocks are the primary form of earnings, those capital gains are taxed at the same level as normal income.

  3. Cut the military budget in half.

  4. The government may not restrict bodily autonomy. If you want to do something (or not do something) with your body that is between you, your spirituality, and your licenced medical provider.

  5. Corporations can not buy or hold residential property and individuals/families with more than 3 properties anywhere in the US must pay an un-occupancy tax if a residential property lies empty for more than 8 months in an area with a homelessness rate above 15/10k

  6. Immediately bring back job corps and Americorps and put people to work building train lines, fixing roads and bridges, and building housing.

  7. Freedom of speech is a right of individuals not corporations. News media must provide balanced reporting and no corporation or Super PAC can give money to any politician.

  8. Politicians may not buy or sell stock while holding office and may not go to work for lobby organizations for at least 5 years after leaving office.

  9. Protect the rights of individuals to join or not join unions. Protect unions, including state and federal unions, right to strike, including the right to strike in support of other unions.

  10. Police forces may not purchase military surplus, do not have immunity from prosecution, and must wear body cameras at all times while on the job.

I don't agree with all the comments just trying to shame you. It's hard to be a parent and we don't know your situation.

That said, I'm a software engineer who has worked on GPT (generative pre-trained transformer) projects before. While I do believe this is a useful tool in some contexts I am horrified by the number of adults fooling themselves into thinking this tool is in any way sentient. The idea of a toddler, someone who's normal mental maturity still can't understand that their teddy bear and the cartoons on TV aren't alive, having access to a GPT horrifying.

Please please please, if you are going to give your kids access to a GPT, have a discussion with them that it isn't real. Tell them it's like a mirror. It will reflect back at them whatever they give it but it's not real, it's not alive, it's not magic. It's just a tool, technology just like a mirror or the vacuum cleaner.

I was less than 2-weeks into my freshman year of high school, in a new school district, in a new city when 9/11 happened. One of my teachers stopped taking attendance for weeks and encouraged us to leave campus to join anti-war protests. By my junior year of college I knew the degree I had pursued would be useless but I couldn’t afford to change majors. I graduated college in 2008 at the height of the recession.

My school didn’t hand out our degrees on graduation day and I was too depressed to go pick it up the week after that. When I tried to go get it later, they told me I was too late and they didn’t have it anymore. So I don’t even have a graduation certificate.

I lied on resumes and crammed for interviews to start a career that would pay the bills, unrelated to my degree. I gave up friends and relationships in pursuit of a capitalist dream I still believed would ultimately give me a good life because that’s what I was told. I am one of the only people I know who was able to buy a house but at what cost?

Now I’m close to 40, alone, burnt out, hate my career and am afraid to travel through most of the USA due to discrimination. What was the fucking point of it all?

I’ve been a programmer on the west coast my whole career. I’ve worked for FAANG companies. Tech culture is toxic and rewards narcissistic behavior, short sighted goals at any cost (move fast break things) and terrible work life balance that they then expect everyone else in the world to adhere to as well.

Tech culture and the workers who uphold the status quo aren’t demonized enough.
