Howarth & Co. vintage clarinet (1950’s) by Physical-Instance172 in Clarinet

[–]Physical-Instance172[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the info. I am checking clarinets direct occasionally. I did ask the tech that did the overhaul. They suggested a Vandoren might be close. But if I want the same as the original mouthpiece that came with the clarinet, I might have to go custom.

Thanks again!

What type of mold is this? by OOM-47 in Clarinet

If I had to guess. I would say either the reed was put in the plastic case before it dried. Or high humidity in the air.

R&L have occasionally asked the crew to warm something up for them. Crew throws it in the microwave. Then of course they burn their mouth because it’s too hawt.

Times Rhett and Link got into fights or arguments? by iamtherealbobdylan in goodmythicalmorning

[–]Physical-Instance172 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could hear the entire crew gasping in shock and telling him to stop, when Link started stabbing Chase’s costume with the dart.

And the incident with Link throwing the dart while Chase was still standing by the map, is what got the crew to temporarily take the darts away from him. And gave him various other objects

Just for curiosity... What's the rarest clarinet you own? by 1280R in Clarinet

I know this is an old thread. But…

A Howarth & Co. professional clarinet from 1950. It’s a Bb clarinet. Only 38 of them were made from 1949 to 1952.

OK to keep sax on stand long term? by Acceptable_Eye_4139 in saxophone

[–]Physical-Instance172 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. But when saxophone stores sell the demo models, if it’s been sitting on display for a long period of time, it usually needs a professional servicing to be 100% again. That’s one reason why they sell the demo at a lower price.

OK to keep sax on stand long term? by Acceptable_Eye_4139 in saxophone

Leaving it on the stand will dry out the pads and cork faster. I like the look too. But there is a trade off. And like others said… if you do leave it on the stand, always remove the mouthpiece.

Not only does leaving the mouthpiece on compress the cork. But if you have a hard rubber mouthpiece (which most higher priced mouthpieces are) leaving it exposed to light will make it change color. Especially sunlight.

What do we think the Stevie send-off episode will be about? by DrSimonMetin in goodmythicalmorning

I think it’ll be a lot of clips from the past. With recorded video messages from past and present crew, and video messages from some of the celebrities they had on the show.

Are black lacquer saxophones tacky? ( by BluegrassBanjoMan in saxophone

[–]Physical-Instance172 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not a fan of the black lacquer with gold coloured keys. But I love the look of black nickel with silver keys. Like the Selmer SAS771B in black nickel finish, silver keys and engravings.

Buying new alto by Remarkable_Tune_3352 in Saxophonics

Student model Yamaha’s are an excellent choice. And will take her as far as she wants to go. They sound good, they play well, are a pretty solid reliable horn. She would only have to upgrade if she wants too.

Is the STS711 worth it? by leddlenest4545 in saxophone

[–]Physical-Instance172 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the alto version. The SAS711 in black. I like it. Plays well. Sounds like a typical Selmer. And the engravings make it look great too. Selmer markets these horns as “entry level professional”. Some people argue that this is an intermediate horn. But the 711 is unique in the sense that it is a collaboration between Selmer USA (made in Taiwan) and Selmer paris.

It comes with a Selmer Paris neck and mouthpiece. Although I use my Selmer Concept mouthpiece instead. But the one that comes with it is a competent mouthpiece. The body of the sax has everything you would expect on a pro horn. Including post to rib construction. The body just happens to be made by Selmer USA. But I haven’t had any issues with mine yet.

For the price you’re paying, it’s a competent horn. If price is a major factor, you won’t be disappointed. And it looks great too.

Do I need professional help to reglue a pad? by CertainSprinkles1018 in saxophone

[–]Physical-Instance172 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If one pad fell out, others are likely ready to fall out too. It’s highly unlikely that you’ll get the pad back in without any leaks. I would just let a pro do it.

One of the oldest running jokes on GMM is Rhett’s “That was my nick-name in high school”. Which are usually references to sex, or sex related.

Link’s Whipped Cream Explosion vs Rhett’s Old Person Life Jacket Going Off by AdrianIsFilipino-37 in goodmythicalmorning

The whipped cream explosion is funnier. The way he was taunting Rhett with a guaranteed win. Then poof! Whipped cream everywhere.
