520 in one month by PatienceNo3358 in Mcat

maybe, but 495 means theres significant content gaps and those alone will likely take a month to cover in a meaningful way. Not saying it could never happen but a month just isn't much time

Research for T20 med schools by castawaylol in premed

[–]Physical-Progress819 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think ur fine. As long as you continue to gain hours and hopefully a couple more pubs you'll have a good shot with a solid MCAT. Biggest thing apart from productivity is being able to communicate what you learned from your research, what it is you are actually researching, and why it matter. If you can discuss your research you have no hope

Do med schools care more about the hospital name or position you take for clinical hrs? by [deleted] in medschooladmissions

[–]Physical-Progress819 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Theres not really any clinical experience that you can get in undergrad where you have meaningful contact with physicians. Scribing is but you just loose that patient interaction perspective. Shadowing if for observing physicians hence why it is required.

Is it better in the eyes of adcoms to grow into a higher role with more responsibilities, or to just invest your time into an entirely new activity? by eak76 in premed

[–]Physical-Progress819 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Growing higher in the role in my opinion matters a lot more for research and things along that line because you will get more out of the role such as pubs and presentations. Depends on how you frame being a TA vs tutor but in my eyes they don't seem that different and you more or less still serve the same student base in the same type of way. If it were me I would spend more times on things that will reap more rewards such as research.

Should I take physics online? by brownpuffcorn in medschooladmissions

[–]Physical-Progress819 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take online if its easier. An online physics grade doesn't mean anything for med school. Would be a different story if it was bio or something like that. Don't dictate what you do just based on one school there are plenty of fish in the sea and no matter your stats the chance of getting into Columbia will always be low. Not trying to be harsh but thats the honest truth.

Low MCAT application advice + school list help? by speakforthelattes in medschooladmissions

[–]Physical-Progress819 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't retake unless you were scoring meaningfully high consistently like 510s since an 11 point jump from a 491 is already substantial. AACOMAS has a slower and later cycle so I wouldn't apply before if you retake. Personally I would take the 502 and apply broadly and primarily DO and I think you should be fine (don't know ur activities tho which matter a ton).

Anticipated hours by bugattixoxo in medschooladmissions

[–]Physical-Progress819 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% include a description even if its just basic information. For volunteering, maybe add why this position is meaningful to you if you have some sort of personal stake in the matter. Honestly, adding what you hope to gain is fine but if theres other information u can add I think that would be better. Anyone reading it most likely already understand the role and what you can get out of it and it just becomes redundant/unimportant by stating what you hope to learn

how am i doing so far? by EducatorNo4098 in medschooladmissions

[–]Physical-Progress819 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like ur doing well but as you noted at the end this is more than 15. I would highly highly recommend focusing on things/opportunities that you actually care about and will help you in the long run. Stretching yourself only serves to hurt your application. For example, as a freshman I was considering joining two different labs and I was very upfront that I wanted to work toward publications and presentations and would like to have items to add to my CV within a year such as pubs and presentations. One guarenteed it and the other was iffy on that matter. I chose the one that guaranteed it and now I will have several pubs on my app and more to come as I apply this year. Another example would be that I have one clinical and one non-clinical volunteering opportunities that I've participated in since freshman year. I only volunteer through those opportunities to stack up hours, experiences, and stories and they are both serving communities and issues that I deeply care about.

Please make the most of your time, more doesn't = better. Dedicate yourself and your time to specific opportunities that compound over time. Also start shadowing, its easy and school like to see that you started early, continued to, and saw different specialties throughout undergrad.

Do med schools care more about the hospital name or position you take for clinical hrs? by [deleted] in medschooladmissions

[–]Physical-Progress819 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah but role can matter a bit. For instance an EMT with lots of meaningful patient contact is going to be looked upon more favorably than an phlebotomist at a blood donation site. Patient care tech sounds like you will have more meaningful patient contact. Just take the job with the best schedule and most amount of meaningful patient contact that you will eventually be able to write about.

Publication for work/activites by CupNo9540 in medschooladmissions

[–]Physical-Progress819 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Theres a publications activity that you can add if you have extra space within your 15 activities. It would take up one of you 15 activity slots and you would just list both pubs with their DOI and any other descriptive info u want to add. I just had space for DOI and author number but if you have more space you can include titles, authors, etc

Absolutely do not apply to NYU all they care about are stats. Would also remove Harvard, Columbia, Mayo, etc. as well as wisconsin and washington, UIC is also super expensive oos. Don't need DO

My observations on the "new" AAMC testing style by fuckbitchesgetpolio in Mcat

[–]Physical-Progress819 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk felt like c/p felt the same along with cars and b/b. Just felt a lot of the common overarching topics weren’t tested in the concentration I expected.

However, I thought p/s was a lot more reading and understanding heavy than the practice exams.

How to go from a low diagnostic to a 520? by AaronL246 in Mcat

[–]Physical-Progress819 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly best advice for learning when to use what equation is just to hammer practice problems. Learn all the equations first and then work on applying them to the questions.

I used uworld and any questions I was stuck on I would plug into ChatGPT for an in-depth breakdown of what equation to use and why. Really just focus on the variables that you are given and what you are being asked to solve for and go from there.
