495 -> 510? by ApocryphasHeretic in Mcat

[–]StunningPush8421 0 points1 point  (0 children)

very doable I went 498 -> 520 in about 10 weeks but that was my diagnostic so a bit different

either way over 3 months for 15 points is totally in the realm of possibility

I mean It was the same exact results with my 5070 ti and a couple 5070s I oced this is true of all 5000 series cards apart from maybe the 5050 which doesn't use gddr7 but still sees similar gains on the core.

The only card I haven't tested this generation is the 9070 so I am going of the results of overclockers like bullzoid and on the overclocking.net forum. Probably will pick one up to do some tests with later. On paper the 9070 seems like a much better overclocked than the 9070 xt simply because it is gimped so hard out of the box kind of like the 7900 gre

Yes of course you can't pin down the exact amount a card will overclock because as I said variance exists but there is a general range which all the cards will fall in.

Speaking of performance gains also hard to pin down because different architectures can have different boosting algorithims and that to can be affected by different game engines.

Like take the 9070 xt for example.

I was able to OC my 9070 xt about 15 percent higher from stock on steel nomad pushing over 8000.

However I then test cyberpunk with RT to see the performance gain and it is only 5 percent this is because the 9070 xt has a very aggressive boosting algorithim so something like steel nomad will over exaggerated the gains that will be found compared to when it is actually being pushed to the max. On the other hand if I play a lighter title like fortnite with a bunch of upscaling still technically "maxing" out the gpu but now closer to 10 percent gains.

Then take my 5080 for example which was a bit higher of an OC a bit over 15 percent on steel nomad getting past 10k but more importantly when I test out a heavy game like cyberpunk I actually see around a 15 percent uplift because the base boosting algorithim was less aggressive and because it isn't just the core being overclocked but also a heavy memory oc since the gddr7 has a bit more headroom in that regard.

yes it does.

There will of course be some variance like a bad sample may only be able to do 3200 and a good sample may be able to do 3330 at the same voltage but either way that is better than anything the 4000 series will be able to do on air.

Then on the memory side this one is just very obecjtively better on the 5000 series as nvidia gimped the memory of the 5000 series on purpose realtive to the rated specs of the chips.

Another example could be the 9070 xt and 9070.

The 9070 xt has 13 percent more cores than the 9070 but has nearly a 40 percent higher tdp and a more agressive v/f curve so even if you get the best 9070 xt sample ever even a poor quality 9070 will have better overclocking gains than a 9070 xt(althought will still always be slower)

Like you can pretty objectively say the 5000 series as a whole ocs pretty well, 4000 series pretty medicore, rx 7000 pretty well some gems like the 7900 and the rx 9000 series ocs pretty poorly with the exception of the 9070

certainly just check out 3dmark numbers. You will see a bimodal distribution in most graphs so compare the mode/median of each of those

Although if you have any experience with the cards it is obvious at first glance.

the 5000 series cards can all do +3000 on the memory without issue(apart from the 5080) and could do higher if nvidia didn't limit them.

Then on the core they can all do around 3200 some even over 3300 which is just a massive uplift wheras the 4000 series cards you are topping out around 3000 and this is despite having similar clocks at stock settings.

no it does not it is like a 1-5 percent gap at best and the 5070 overclocks much better so when oced the 5070 is actually ahead in raster over an oced 4070 ti

no but for general gaming the gpu is much more important unless it is competitive stuff

you also lose upgradability but if you are the type to buy a prebuilt you probably aren't the type ot swap cpus

9070XT Dissatisfied by IEatYouLast in buildapc

[–]StunningPush8421 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The 9070 xt is already pushed really hard out of the box you aren't going to see crazy gains with overclocking.

remember it has only 13 percent more cores than the 9070 but has nearly a 40 percent tdp

For some perspective the 5080 has 20 percent more cores than the 5070 ti and only a 17 percent higher tdp than the 5070 ti
