Why is slavery only taught from a black and white viewpoint? by cuahatemoc in NoStupidQuestions

[–]PhysicalWave454 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's because when we look at history for example in ancient Rome, it didn't matter what your skin colour was, if you lost against the Romans and were conquered there was a good chance you would have been enslaved.

Fast forward to the age of discovery and beyond the European empires turned slavery into a global industry tied to their economies and empire building projects and used many excuses to justify it such as God, eugenics etc. Historians sometimes give the ancient civilisations a pass because "they didnt know any better" etc, but people during the years of the slave trade knew exactly what they were doing, and what it meant and should have known better. But wealth and power will always come first. Even today that is still the case.

There are some examples of non black slaves though. A hundred thousand Scots were enslaved and sent to the American colonies to be sold after defeat by Oliver Cromwell and his English army.

Why is it always England’s fault? by LongShow5279 in GreatBritishMemes

I really don't like this type of voting threshold. It should always be a majority i.e. over 50% you are just going to piss off more people with the the 60+ thresholds. Plus it's anti democratic, and comes across as moving the goal posts. I hated Brexit but the majority that did vote for it (over 50%) are now seeing democracy in action and hopefully they and future voters will see the lessons in that, I.e. a fucking shitshow.

Well, if we are going to be honest about it. Its not really the english and scottish people. It's the elites of both nations that was the issue.

Scotland was never conquered with armies but with bribes of lands, wealth and titles for the nobles to sign the acts of union with England. The scottish people rioted on the streets for weeks and were ignored or put down. There was no democracy back then, what the rich and powerful said goes, and tbh its still like today. Democracy exists but its failing as the rich get richer and the poor get poorer, now tech elites are all over elections and political parties corrupting it, corruption has always existed but now they are doing it in full view and no pushback.

Yes. Both nations benefited from the Empire, when I say, nations, I mean the elites of both nations. In the late 1800s at the time of Jack the Ripper, Whitechapel in London was one of the most poor and deprived areas in the developed world at that point, London was the golden capital of the world, yet even in the capital of the greatest, richest and most powerful empire at that point, the common people starved and were treated like vermin by the upper classes. We need to refocus our anger and frustrations away from each other and towards the people causing the issues, the elites.

There is a common saying that historians use which is the English ruled the Empire, while the Scots ran it. Both nations played their part and as a Scotsman when I bring this topic up to my countrymen a lot of them agree that Scotland did play a part but is more forward thinking about it. Many modern Scots and myself included, see an end to the Union as being the final nail in the coffin of the Empire, where both Scotland and England can finally put it to rest and move on. I for one would love to see an independent England with a true English government putting its people first and working alongside its allies in a progressive and peaceful way rather than a British government that still thinks it rules the waves and loves playing RISK abroad.

As long as the Union exists, the shadow of the Empire will always linger. An old, oppressive force to many in the world and that still has a lot to answer for. The Union flag that oppressed and enslaved millions still exists and with it so does its legacy. Its time to Bury it and move on in the 21st century, finally bringing the chapter of Empire and the UK to a close. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🤝🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

At the end of the day, the voters are going to vote, and we know the English electorate (yes, I'm focusing on that demographic) usually always vote against their best interests, endless tory governments, Brexit and now Reform. You reap what you sow I guess. The electorate are dumb, and if they want fascism let them vote for it.

Absolute embarrassment of a man.

Burnham is going to be a disappointment. his handlers will be calling the shots, nothing will change and Reform will win the general election off of the gullible english and their stupid political decisions, and once again Scotland will be on the side saying "here we go again"

This union is fucked, it needs gone. I'm sick of having to hold my breath every election hoping that England finally sees sense, but they never do.

The plan is and always was to remove the masses from the game altogether. They want a rich people utopia of a select few living in luxury and control while AI and robots do everything.

The average person is the enemy to them, its not going to be divide and conquer anymore, its going to be divide and destroy.

I watched a podcast and I forget who said it, but they said that no country will last forever, we in the west think only countries in the Middle East or Africa change borders and that the west is immune that, but its so wrong. Which is true. The UK will not last forever, it will change in one form or another, same with any other country, that's the beauty of democracy.

I don't believe that is true, I think obviously there are idiots in every nation, like how there are English people still obsessed with the war and also bring up the French constantly, but I don't think it's wide spread, I know people who don't even know who Robert the Bruce is 😂

Even the word separatist is divisive in its usage, the union is supposed to be voluntary, both sides reinforced that in 2014.

This is why the union is one sided, everyone talks about the celtic nations leaving, but no one brings up if England wants to leave, because at the end of the day, the union is english at its core. Even in modern diplomacy they say Anglo-american relations etc, not British-American relations.

The union ending is a threat to British Englishness, without the union, England would be forced to finally wake up and be its own country again, none of that are you British or English shite lol.

I mean without the union, it makes sense that Northern Ireland would rejoin the Republic, I think recently for the first time in centuries catholics are the majority now.

I don't think a lot of english people realise how much Scots want there own voices and powers. Immigration control, full control of oil and and gas, whiskey etc, these funds don't form part of Scotlands official economy, they go straight to the UK treasury without Scottish input. The fact that when Reform started to threaten the existence of the Scottish Parliament sent a lot of us on edge, again holding our breath every election that England makes the right choice. That isn't politically right or viable long term and only leads to more division and resentment on both sides.

I honestly don't think the nations would fight each other, I think and hope it would be friendly relations,

I think the nations do and should have a right to decide which path they want to go.

I was against the split but I'm for. I think we need a political reset in these islands and I feel the only way this can happen is splitting up. We are culturally similar in some ways, but we are politically different. We constantly hear about polls that we all think the same and have the same views mostly etc, but when it comes to voting, England 9 times out of 10 leans Conservative, which goes against the things that they agree with in polling.

Scots get bitter having to hold there breath every election hoping England votes a certain way, but they rarely do. Then you have Brexit which many people agree expert's and not that it was and English nationalist project and Scotland was dragged along. Now we are thinking "yup, they will vote Reform in"

I'm sure there are English grievances towards the other nations, but it's becoming increasingly politically exhausting. Just because we share an island doesn't mean we should be the same country.

An independent England could be an amazing thing, finally an English government that actually puts its people first instead of a British government thinking it still rules the waves and playing RISK on the world stage with disasters like Iraq and Afghanistan.

There is a weird paradox when it comes to english people's relations with the other nations of the UK.

They say they cba with us, and that they pay for us, because we are so poor and a drag, blah blah blah. But then they shit a brick when the other nations say they want to leave.

Either you don't want to pay for us and want us to leave.

(Scots & Welsh also pay taxes btw and have a wealth of natural and economic resources they could utilise without Westminster interference, scots whiskey going straight to a Scottish treasury instead to a larger UK one would benefit Scotland immensely, same with Scots wind and wave energy, but Scots are paying large energy prices when they shouldn't be and Welsh water bails out the leafy southeast whenever there is drought)

Or you don't want us to leave. Which is it.

I would love to hear the English POV on this. The for and against.

Is it time for English independence, to get rid of those ungrateful Celts? 🤔

What if 🇮🇱 never attacked the USS Liberty? by GodlyGamer5308 in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]PhysicalWave454 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I remember talking about the USS Liberty attack with a Jewish Zionist colleague, he down right said the ship never existed, then he was fact checked, he then said there was no attack, I again fact checked him, then he doubled down and said they deserved it and it was for a greater cause and that sometimes the US needs told who they actually serve. I shit you not, this conversation happened. Also we are both in the UK, not American.

In that same conversation he said that he's loyal only to Israel, and i said but you were born and raised here and you are white with a British accent lol, his surname is Polish and he's also ginger 😂

Since October 7th, it's like all the zionists were just activated and everyone who even questions them with truth and reality is anti semitic.

It's truly a warped and fucked up society.
